The Greek system is a pussified shadow of what it used to be anyway.
Eventually these organizations will buy property off campus, and the schools will have zero say over what happens.

Don't act like they're all innocent. Greeks are getting out of hand. Fights in the parade grounds every weekend, multiple arrests and a freaking stabbing last weekend. Something needed to be done anyway.
Stabbing incident was not even LSU students.
The greek on the parade ground wasn't in a fight - he was knocked out with a sucker punch.
names of greeks arrested last weekend please? I'll hang up an listen.. and sorry you were balled.

im sure they would, but would they shut down the rugby club if there was a death due to hazing on the lacrosse club?
Yes, yes they would. In a heartbeat. They shut down the rugby team for a semester because the team had some beer after a road game in Atlanta.

I know LSU has been having issues with frats for years (as have many other universities). At some point enough is enough. These kids are there to receive an education, not be peer pressured and hazed into taking shots of everclear until they end up in the hospital.
Once a right of passage now it seems stupid, times change.

I was Greek at LSU.
It is tragic. I get LSU's play here though. They are sending a deep message that this shite needs to be cut out.
Is it fair? No and it sucks, but they are proving a point.

Fraternities are the gayest organizations on the planet... When i was new to LSU, i had a couple friends who were going through 'rush'; even though i knew very little about fraternities, I decided to check it out.. I'll never forget having to go up to the attic of some frat house with a bunch of other guys going through rush, while some of the established members of the fraternity asked us these really personal, sexual questions .. it wasnt like funny or anything-- just real, real creepy.. i cant remember the name of the frat, but it's whichever one calls themselves the 'Southern Gentlemen'(?) Anyway, i heard lots of similar stories from other guys then, and in the years since.. i actually got invited to join a couple of the frats (a bid?), but i said nah, I'm good... Ever since then, I've felt like i dodged a bullet.

try again the stabbing was two non LSU students much less non greek. name ONE greek arrested for fighting last saturday... the guys that beat up casen maggio were not greek.... the guy he knocked out was.. who was NOT fighting him.... so what exactly does LSU need to get control of....

Very sad after seeing the pic of him holding his acceptance letter.

None of that happened.

Sorry you think this type of behavior is acceptable.

To those that replied to me that I'm telling lies-- well, I'm not sure how to prove it to you, so i wont try.. but again, that was my experience with one fraternity, the other stories from friends of mine are second-hand, involving other fraternities and their experiences.. btw , nothing wrong with being gay, it's a valid lifestyle choice-- it's just that frats tend to contain a disproportionate amount of the gays.

Look, this is basic Risk Management that most major industries/businesses do all the time. You evaluate what is the likelihood another event (hospitalization/death of another student) happening along with the impact of that risk occurring. The likelihood is low but the impact is huge. Repeat huge. You could see no more Greek Orgs. at LSU ever again plus the damage that would be done to LSU's reputation. Stop worrying about not having fun in the near future and hope things are better over the long term.
Better to take the safe, conservative approach to the situation and reduce risk.

That would make sense, i was a pretty geeky 17 yr old without much experience with women.. had only been with my high school gf at that point.. but i swear to Christ, it was like these older guys were really getting off on grilling these freshmen dudes about their sexual proclivities.
