Prosecutors plan to charge Alec Baldwin with involuntary manslaughter in the fatal shooting of a cinematographer on the set of the movie “Rust” in New Mexico in 2021, according to a person with knowledge of the investigation.

The film’s armorer overseeing weapons, Hannah Gutierrez Reed, is also expected to be charged with involuntary manslaughter in the incident, according to the person.

The film’s first assistant director, David Halls, has agreed to plead guilty to the charge of negligent use of a deadly weapon, according to the person.

Santa Fe-area District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies plans to announce the charges Thursday morning, the person said, and the charges are expected to be filed by the end of the month.

Baldwin has maintained that he did not pull the trigger of the gun – once during a prime-time interview shortly following the deadly shooting and again on a podcast episode. The actor originally said he had pulled the hammer of the gun back as far as he could and released it, but did not pull the trigger.

He deserves more than that, but at least he's being charged with something.

I don’t know the facts of this case. Are we wanting him to pay becuase a loudmouthed hardcore lib who goes off about gun control all the time or did he really do something illegal?

Hate to see it, but more than that, you love to see it. Sure he will plead out to something a lot smaller, but having minimal consequences for his actions is a step in the right direction.

I can't stand Baldwin, but I think that's the appropriate charge.

I hope his douchebagginess earns him the maximum sentence.

So is there a good chance he won't see prison? Seems like he should still see some.

Well, it's been proven as a fact that he lied to investigators about the mechanism of the gun, and not pulling the trigger. Pretty sure that's illegal.

But there's a lot more evidence that he did much more than that.

this board wants him charged because he's a liberal.

he's an actor who was handed a loaded gun by a prop master who assured him it was safe for use. he's not at fault.

under the law no live ammunition was allowed on set, somehow that's Baldwin's fault...

No one was charged in the death of Brandon Lee, same thing.

I thought he was killed with fake rounds, right? Fired from too close.

ETA: just read how it happened. Weird combination of events.

Partially. He's a notoriously crappy dude who demonizes regular people for going against progressive orthodoxy and he killed a woman.

We want him to be treated like most any normal person would be treated in like scenario. He'll get a trial, like we would, and he'll have more resources than most to get out of his jam.

I'm surprised they're charging him. Not that I don't think he deserves to be charged, he does and I hope he's convicted. I figured the two-tiered justice system would keep on keeping on in this case.

He aimed a gun at someone and pulled the trigger. Not to mention he is one of the producers of the movie and allowed the crew to screw around with the weapons while on set.

Until cops are held to the same standard as private individuals, I will never believe lying to the police should be a crime.
