That is the only reason it's propped up. It's not because they are suddenly more experienced.

Not sure why I would pay attention to the dining room status when I have no intention of going in there in the first place, but okay
You didn't happen to look through one of the 37 windows that would show if there were patrons sitting inside? You didn't notice any other vehicles in the parking lot at non-curbside parking?
I guess ignorance really is bliss.

I'm part of a large organization of business owners. The #1 theme currently being discussed locally within the group is lack of workers, especially at the lower skill/wages levels.
Spleen doesn't believe you unless you have some pie charts and graphs for him to decide.

Visited Alabama over the weekend, help wanted signs everywhere. Every single place on the gulf coast
Coworker was in Gulf Horses this weekend and I asked about the crowds since we are going in June and he said the crowd/traffic wasn't even bad, but every single place they went to eat had staff shortages causing extraordinary wait times and slow service when he finally did get a table.

for fricking real - i cannot even begin to count the number of places hiring on the 280 corridor alone. I think spleen is either blind, or has his head so buried up his own arse he might as well be.

Spleen is a jackass. He needs to be knuckle checked at Sonic.

Municipalities losing more money from employment tax vs what they are gaining from sales tax?
I agree with ending the extras.
I agree with ending the extras.

It’s the truth and I can’t even find cooks to cook your dinner. They say pay better wages? I’m paying $16-$18 for line cooks and dishwashers and paying bonuses. I’ve had 1 application in 6 weeks.

Oh they’re all stirred up on Reddit. It’s pretty funny. The party line is “if you can’t raise your wages and stay in business, you’re evil and deserve it.” I can’t wait until a couple of the local “gem” hipster places start going under because of shite like this.

I lean to it being the right move as well. Just would prefer some more justification for the move, and working to gain more understanding at why the issue is present. Sometimes it is the most simple explanation, but there does seem to be some other factors going on. People just leaving the workforce, people finding better jobs, people deciding both spouses don't need to work, etc. This post was edited on 5/10 at 3:31 pm
It’s not worth questioning anything to the Wal Mart Republican crowd once a bell has been rung to start them slobbering.
The mob downvote reaction to simply asking for some factual statistical data to back the claim demonstrates there is no openness to discourse. It’s the Lee Atwater narrative that was subtly fed to them for 50 years - until Dear Leader Donald just dropped the pretext.
FWIW, there businesses looking to hire now are mostly the same ones that were having trouble getting folks prepandemic. The increased UCB has definitely made it worse, and it probably is the right thing to do to stop it. But as long as folks can go to Amazon and make $15 per hour to work 20 hours a week - and get to keep their section 8 and food stamps - they’re not going to work 40 hours per week as a cashier at Circle K for $10 /hr with the idea of being an assistant manager in 18 months, and making $40,000 as a manger three years from now.
The truth of the matter is that so many business base their labor model on programs like Food Stamps, Medicaid and Section 8 - they pay just enough or limit hours to keep their employees eligible. Working class folks argue about D’s and R’s and focus on wedge issues. In truth, those who control the parties are in collusion with each other at the least...and when you get down to it probably are really one in the same.
Oh, and Kay Ivey doesn’t know her —- from a hole in the ground. She is a career party bureaucrat who got a career achievement award as SOS, didn’t squeal on the malfeasance there, and got a second reward to be Lt Gov. They actually like her better than Bentley because she can be fully controlled.

Yep, McDonald's was paying $50 to just come fill out an application 18 months ago. But McDonald's must be in Dem Red Areas.

Governors need to do this so people will take jobs instead of taxpayer money

Lots of truth here. You can't get them to see it though. No one likes to question themselves, least of all the MAGA's here. Both parties work together, vacation together, go to elite retreats and global summits together. And laugh all the way to the bank.

I would say that almost every business (especially restaurants) have help wanted signs up. People need to get off their asses and go back to work.
To say this backs up their claim is very short sighted.
Why is nobody pointing out that the economic recovery is adding jobs at a breakneck pace? As I have said many times, I don't know what's causing this shortage, and this may very well help. But I think people are going to disappointed to see that they still have to wait for their circle K all day rotating hot dogs and taquitos.

Right? The former plant baw who sits in an office all day because they are manager of some made up position that oversees an department to comply with some horseshite regulatory mandate is pissed at the guy on the street who doesn't want to be treated like a dog.
But they scream free market and survival of the fittest, not realizing that if it came down to true survival of the fittest the guy on the street would rip his throat out and eat it for lunch. And they don't have the foresight to realize that the idea that they've succeeded because they are smart/strong was perpetuated by a class of people who have subjugated society a long time ago to a point that they don't have to worry about survival of the fittest.
This coming from someone about to go work in corporate culture. I'm not fed up with anything, because it truly is a system that allows for safety and prosperity for those who get dealt a semi decent hand. But I do see it for what it is.

I agree that there are a shitton of open jobs that pay well above what this thread is discussing.
Economy is booming and we are suffering the same BS of not enough skilled workers because the government and modern culture has pushed the agenda that everyone should go to a university

At the end of the day the people that have been milking the system all their lives are being rewarded at the expense of the people that work hard for every penny. It’s Systematic Laziness and sucking the government Tit.
