How much coverage do y'all think this will get?

The headline correctly identified the suspect as the dead person, so I'm not sure why they changed that to "one person" in the first line of the article, but I suspect it's because someone else wrote the headline.
Summer program going on there at the time.
Well done, Mr. Officer. In a just world, you would be hailed as a hero nationwide right now. Unfortunately, the mainstream media will instead completely ignore this because it harms their gun control narrative.
Imagine that. Safety protocols and an armed SRO worked.
ETA: James Spann added the statement below from ALEA to his post about this on his Facebook page.
Looks like the the person was trying to break into a police car parked outside the school (likely the on duty Rainbow City Police Officer's vehicle), and then tried to take the officer's gun. Imagine if this person had actually been able to break into the car or take the officer's gun. Surely his/her crime spree would have just ended there, right?

A shooting outside a Gadsden elementary school Thursday morning left one person dead.

The incident happened at Walnut Park Elementary School where a summer literacy camp for elementary-age children was taking place. Gadsden City School Superintendent Tony Reddick said 34 children were in the school at the time of the incident.

There were reports of a suspicious person at the school trying to get into vehicles and buildings. Reddick said the person “aggressively” tried to open several door ways. The school went into lockdown, following protocols, Reddick said. It’s unclear what touched off the incident.

A school resource officer on site responded and an altercation ensued. The suspect was then fatally shot.
A Rainbow City police officer suffered minor injuries in the scuffle.

All children in the school at the time of the incident have been safely picked up from an alternate location within 20 minutes of being taken from the school.

“We’re just so thankful that none of this involved the children,” Reddick said. “Everyone followed the safety protocols that we’ve drilled on.”

Here is an updated statement from ALEA:
ETOWAH COUNTY – On Thursday, June 9, at the request of the Gadsden Police Department, Special Agents with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) are investigating an officer-involved shooting. An individual was attempting to make forcible entry into a marked Rainbow City patrol vehicle at which point a School Resource Officer (SRO) with the Rainbow City Police Department attempted to stop the subject.
The subject resisted and attempted to take the officer’s firearm. Additional officers from the Gadsden Police Department responded to the scene to provide assistance. The subject was injured by gunfire and was pronounced deceased.
The incident occurred near Walnut Park Elementary School in Gadsden; however, no children were involved or harmed over the course of the incident.
Nothing further is available as the investigation is ongoing. Once complete, the findings will be turned over to the Etowah County District Attorney’s Office.

Here's another article from 1819 New, if y'all don't want to give MSN a click. Not as much detail though.

Not being a bleeding heart here, but what a sad state of affairs that our kids are drilling on not getting shot by crazy people. In my day we just worried about nuclear holocaust.
Kudos to the officer.
Kudos to the officer.

But they didn’t in Texas

Three cases of water and a pellet gun target. Yep, that is all you need.
eta, not a target, just some kind of border around the tree.
So, all you need is three cases of water.

The large majority of these shootings would be thwarted by simply locking the doors and keeping only one entrance and exit point. Doing that went a long way here.

Was this guy armed? This is a weird story.

Cops doing their job and kids not getting slaughtered should be the norm nothing about that should scream breaking news

The school in Texas left a door open, and had absolute cowards working for their police department. That situation absolutely should have ended exactly like this one.

At least getting under a desk or hiding behind something stands a chance to help with this. Not so much with a nuke.

In my day kids brought their hunting rifles to school and left them on the racks in their trucks. No school shootings. Kudos to the nuclear family.

Gotta love how the gun-grabbing lunatics try to justify ignoring things detrimental to their views.

This is a good picture for the correct form of de-funding of the police. These military weapons and gear are completely wasted on them. It's giving them a false sense of competency. Instead of training, ARMORED PERSONAL CARRIERS, GENTS!!! Instead of proficiency with their issued firearms, DUDE LOOK AT THIS frickING BODY ARMOR!!! Send these useless items to some 3rd world country, and pump it into training.

Ah yes the ole blame the teachers for having a door open. Keep going this is a great look for ya

Expect it didn’t, the school officer didn’t stop him, and the cops didn’t do shite to save the kids.

Are you a complete moron, or only partially? Locking a door so people can not get in does not make it impossible for people to get out.
Excuse me for not specifically specifying that I meant "one entrance and exit point for VISITORS." I should not have assumed you had a greater than 3rd grade intellect.

You’re the one arguing turning our schools into virtual prisons and having massive fire hazards
