Airbnb on Monday removed listings where enslaved people in the U.S. once lived following a viral TikTok video slamming a Mississippi property described as a "slave cabin."

“Properties that formerly housed the enslaved have no place on Airbnb,” the property-rental company said in a statement to NBC News. ”We apologize for any trauma or grief created by the presence of this listing, and others like it, and that we did not act sooner to address this issue.”

Airbnb added that the company is working with experts to develop new policies to address other properties associated with slavery.

The property at the forefront of the controversy is the Panther Burn Cottage at the Belmont Plantation in Greenville, Mississippi.

It is no longer listed on the site.

Wynton Yates, a Black lawyer from New Orleans, posted a TikTok about the listing Friday, saying “How is this okay in somebody’s mind to rent this out? A place where human beings were kept as slaves, rent this out as a bed and breakfast?”

So someone presumably spent a lot of money fixing up this place to make it an AIRBNB and now can't list it because somebody was offended? I assume "Wynton Yates, a Black lawyer from New Orleans" wasn't really offended and is looking for attention. I hate that companies bend to the perpetually offended idiots.

Guess I’ll have to shelve my plan to refurbish a rape den and rent it out. Back to the drawing board

I mean it's a fricking slave cabin. Why would this person think it was a good idea to begin with.

I know the OT will see no wrong, but it's in extremely poor taste.

I can just about guarantee you that there are AirBNBs in the French Quarter that incorporate slave quarters.

Those locations have ultimate street cred amongst some hardcore BSMers.

Just sayin...

Was it actually mentioned in the ad that the place once housed slaves?

If so, pretty tone deaf.

Otherwise, pointless outrage, per usual.

You could probably just not advertise it as "slave cabin".

Sure, but I don't know that saying that it is, is somehow inherently wrong.
