this is a GOOD thing, let's at least all agree with this part...
I disagree that FORCED integration is a good thing.
Integration would have happened naturally on its own as people move into different areas.
Kids spending 2-3 hours on the bus everyday is not a good thing.
Almost every social engineering program the government has implemented has failed. You cannot force people to like each other, and almost everyone feels most comfortable with people who share mores, folkways, religion, etc.

The reason why the integration was forced was because of the lack of any significant voluntary integration.

That worked out well. It's almost like you can't force integration
This shite hits home to me a bit. Earlier this week my kid ended up on group chat with other kids from her school. This kid is just pistol whipping with words, other kids calling them “white” this and that. Lots of bitch, arse, etc, frick being used on the kids in this chat. Surprisingly, she is black. It’s a 5th grade group chat. This isn’t the first time for my kid to experience racism. It always comes from blacks. We audit her communication constantly with dozens of children. Never seen a white kid throwing racist behavior down.

Baton Rouge schools aren’t segregated by race. They’re segregated by money. Anyone that can afford to escape does. Those that can’t afford it are stuck. Nothing to do with race.
But money is racist too ya know

This, not integration, single handedly destroyed BR public schools to the point of no return.
Yep. I went to Central during the forced bussing period, which was less impacted than the BR schools, but I knew kids moving or using relative's addresses. It was a mess.
My HS girlfriend was zoned for Glen Oaks but she just "moved in" with her grandparents that lived in the Central district

Wait and dang minute.
I thought that if black folks could have their own stuff, it would fix all?
Get gravy on the phone!!!
This doesn’t make sense. I wanna know why black folks haven’t become rich at this point

Westdale Middle, where Green teaches, has among the broadest mix of offerings in the parish, including gifted, foreign language immersion and extensive special education services. By Baton Rouge public school norms, it’s diverse, but still only about 10% of the students are White.
Green said Westdale’s diversity attracts some families, but scares others.

Uhhh. . .wtf does diversity mean, if 90/10 is considered diverse?

It's just means less white people now. Don't use the dictionary definition

There were some pretty decent schools in BR up until the early 80’s.
Honestly, it was way later than that. I had friends in multiple BR public schools until the mid 90s. Central was decent and under EBR. So was Tara, Woodlawn & Lee. Belaire and Broadmoor were so so.

Tara was solid when I graduated in 94
Judge Parker got the lifetime achievement award from developers in Zachary, Central, AP, and LP.
Making lnkids get in the bus at 5-6AM to do a mass ride to Independence Park and then switch off for another bus to your final destination should have resulted in him being tarred and feathered. Instead, people just left and got derided as racists for not putting up with his bullshite.

Central bussed in kids from Scotlandville but it was far enough out where they were maybe 15% of the student population.
I do remember going to school with a guy named Cedric that was 21 in the 11th grade and had 2-3 kids. He was cool though

perhaps, over a long enough time frame, but I disagree... after all, there's a reason we, as a country, had to pass multiple pieces of legislation just to make it a somewhat even playing field, as far as housing and lending practices, etc... steering, redlining, blockbusting, etc... all these practices that are illegal now, were completely normal, which didn't allow for an equal playing field...

agreed... though I'm not sure what, exactly, would or could have been done to achieve both goals...

What year was that? I went to Central High and finished in 1996. Don't remember anyone like that.

It's called 'white privilege'.
I grew up dirt poor. My parents were immigrants who were labor workers making minimum wage. They sent my siblings and I (3 in total) to private schools because they knew public school education sucked.
It came at the expense of my parents and sacrifice, but that was worth it to my parents.
That's the issue, some families don't feel that way about education. Who's fault is that? Everyone else who did care about school?
