Bucks vs Luchas was a spotfest but that's to be expected from them. I'll take that match over Reigns vs Lesnar any day.

The Young Bucks and the Lucha Bros will never draw the amount of money that Lesnar has drawn in just the last 5 years.....there's a reason that ESPN covers WWE and a lot of that is Lesnar.

It's odd how when WWE leaks that Lesnar will be on Raw the ratings go up. It's odd that Cena who only wrestles a handful of matches a year still is top 5 (probably top 3) in merch sales.

Sometimes I wonder if the anti-wwe guys understand business/wrestling business.

Also its funny how the 'ratings are down' yet wwe is still making a ton of money.

Yeah. I'm not a big fan of that, either.

ECW was at their peak when WWE had Austin and Rock in their prime. Obviously AEW is never gonna have anyone on the level of Hogan, Austin, Rock, Lesnar, or Cena but those are all time greats. They can still succeed without them. The Bucks have already proven they can sell a ton of merch.

It seems like the one heel they let grab a mic last night, MJF, did a good job of drawing heat. Hopefully, they allow more of that. Maybe I'm in the minority (not in the same way as Cryme Tyme) but that does more for me than a 5-star match.

I bet Becky Lynch sold more shirts than the Bucks in the last year.....I can't prove that but I see "The Man" shirts all over and I've never seen any Young Bucks or Elite shirts outside of TV or a wrestling event.

I watched a lot of the highlights.

I felt like it was good. But all AEW will turn out to be is an ADULT pro wrestling promotion. Based on the crowd and the antics alone.

WWE puts kids and money first. Huge difference.

Whaaaat? Have you not read this thread or any of twitter? AEW smarks has already said they’ve surpassed that.

I'm in there with you....I've always said the promos and storylines will mean way more than fake fights.

WWE's average tv viewer is in their 40s. Kids and teens don't watch. Their parents do take them to shows and buy them merch though. AEW is going for the 18-35 year olds who want TV14 wrestling.

I will say this.....if AEW starts to pop ratings on TNT then it might cause WWE to quicken up their shift in that direction.

I think part of the reason wrestling was so popular in the 90s was because of video games. Almost everyone I knew had a wrestling video game on the SNES, Sega Genesis, N64, PS1 as well as the ones in arcades and places like Chuck E Cheese.

I know that's how I personally got into wrestling at a young age. My parents didn't get me into it. I watched it because I was seeing the wrestlers I played video games on, in real life on the TV.

With so many gaming options for kids these days I am not sure how well wrestling video games do anymore with younger crowds. Without that vehicle, kids need their parents or friends to get them into wrestling.

What made the attitude era cool was the all of the R-rated content. All of that is gone now.

People in the thread are acting like AEW fans are elitists when in reality the vast majority of AEW fans have been shite on over and over and over again by WWE fans for a long time.

Back when I watched TNA, the WWE horde would downvote everything into literal back pages obscurity on reddit and make fun of how few people watch the show (oh the irony that Smackdown is doing near similar ratings now).

Got into New Japan and initially the same crap was happening again.

WWE started going downhill and criticizing the product in the mid 2010s was taboo and drew the horde upon you. New Japan was harder to criticize than TNA so it just got downvoted instead of snide remarks.

Only when the minority of people disliking the WWE product became the majority did all of these other avenues start opening up.

For people acting like AEW is trying to be competition to WWE. They are and they aren’t. They’ve said over and over and over again that they don’t want people to stop watching WWE, just that they want to provide an alternative. Unlike WCW, they aren’t trying to just jack WWE wrestlers exclusively and just attempt WWE on a larger level.

Those pot shots last night aren’t exactly unwarranted either when HHH and Shawn Michaels are cracking jokes and HHH calls it a “pissant company” that Vince could just buy if he wanted to.

Most AEW fans have spent a lot of invested time and money in WWE only to feel like they’ve been neglected, unappreciated, and ignored. There is a certain level of distaste for being treated that way. I spent $1000+ on WM34, so yeah I’m one of those people. I kept my WWE subscription because I didn’t know the damn Takeovers were on Hulu too...why would I even think to check that at any point?

I don’t want WWE to suck, but I do want that 75 year old a-hole to get pushed out of power. He just seems like a shitty person in general who is obviously in over his head while everyone from the WWE talent to the WWE fans pay for his ego.

I truly believe HHH could do an amazing job with that company, and part of me wonders watching that show last night if he’s thinking “This is fricking stupid. I’ve been putting on shows like this in NXT on similar levels for years now, and it’s seen as developmental still because Vince fricking ruins all the goodwill and momentum I build up for these wrestlers on the main roster.” I’d imagine HHH saw that show and was fricking PiSSED.

The only thing HHH does have as a kind of “F you” back to Vince was him convincing Vince to let Dustin go to AEW. I don’t think he or Vince expected that match to steal the show or a 50 year old Dustin coming off double knee surgery could put on that type of performance.

Where on God’s green earth are you seeing Becky shirts “all over”? That’s just bullshite.

Like you said you only see Young Bucks and Elite shirts on TV and wrestling events and the exact same can be said about “The Man” shirts. Outside of the wrestling world people don’t know who the hell Becky Lynch is.

For the record, I've never seen a Becky shirt or a Young Bucks shirt out in public.

But I have no social life so that could be the reason.

ETA: Off the top of my head, the only current wrestlers shirts I remember seeing were Seth Rollins and AJ Styles. But I don't follow AEW as closely so maybe I saw one and didn't notice.

I've seen them in the streets in Lafayette, BR, NOLA, Chicago, Vegas, Houston, Dallas, and Boston that I can think of off the top of my head. Last week I saw a lady in a "The Man" shirt in Super One in Crowley and her significant other had "Becky 2 Belts".....those are facts I've seen with my own eyes.
