Charles Brooks Hamaker, a master brewer who created such Abita beer varieties as Amber, Turbodog, Purple Haze and Andygator, suffered a fatal heart attack Nov. 1 while brewing a batch of brown ale at Cane River Brewery in Natchitoches. He was 59. He died doing what he enjoyed, said his son Miles Hamaker, who confirmed the death. “It was his love.”

He will be preserved and buried in an oaken cask which will be aged to perfection.

Had the privilege of sitting in on him doing his job before COVID. I met him many times in passing by the brewery. Great man and he always had a smile. RIP

Dammit. May he Rest In Peace.

Hope Abita continues on strong. They’re one of my favorite breweries and I’m a beer snob

The son must lurk the OT.

At least he died doing what he loved.

Purple Haze is my jam.
RIP

59 is young. Most brewmasters I have met were obese.

Damn, that really sucks to die that young with a family.

I haven't had a beer in almost 5 years but I drank my belly full of Abita Amber many nights. Well, mornings and days too which led to me not having a beer for 5 years, but nevertheless...

RIP
