Fall of 1978. A/c went out for 3 or 5 weeks. After the first week we all got together one night turn off all the lights except the rooms to spell out “ Too Hot” in block letters. Made the front page of the papers and the news. I had the honor of being the top of the H

Lived there in '05. 10th floor. It was a shithole for sure, but some of my best times at LSU happened there. RIP.

My buddy lived in there in 2004 on the 10th floor I think. The elevator was always busted and people were always pulling the fire alarm. One time someone took a shite in the stairwell and then pulled the fire alarm.

14th floor 2004/2005. I will never forget the shite in the stairwell.

Parents helped move me in first day 1986. Even then it smelled like piss my mom was sick lol. Still remember a writing inside the elevator stainless steel wall - "Save the gay whales for Jesus". Pretty much covered all the hot topics of the day...

Fall 2001 - Spring 2002
614A.
My roommate was a 21 yr old poli sci transfer from South Carolina. So, we got to have booze in our room with no worries. No surprise as to why I earned a 1.5gpa that 1st semester.

9/11 happened while I was there. News kept saying that all major buildings & bridges in capital cities were likely prime targets. I kept watching the MS River Bridge along with all the live TV coverage.

My mother made me live in a dorm for freshman year, to get the full college experience, instead of an off campus house with friends. I moved to campus myself, so she never saw Kirby until she came to visit me for my birthday in the Spring. She walked in & just began apologizing to me. Pretty sure it scared my little brother because he never lived in a dorm.

My step-dad lived in KS in the late 70s. Told me all the stories of the origins of "Kirby Suicide" & how the DKEs used to stage mannequins on the roof on the weekends after baseball games & have people convinced it was a real person who was suicidal. Then, after responders would show up-they'd throw the mannequin off the roof.

My best friend lived on the 9th floor & would open their windows on the cafeteria side to shoot Roman candles & bottles rockets out. People would scatter in loud screams.

Laundry detergent + water in the hallways made for some epic broom hockey nights.

Good times in KS back in the mid-90s for sure. Some of my suitemates took a trip to the roof one day and I always wondered how they got themselves up there. Is there some kind of rooftop access door that leads to the roof on the 14th floor near the elevators? Also, did the kid actually die on the 12th floor back in 1981? I would like some answers.

Kirby was a fricking eyesore. Glad it’s gone.

We parked there for years for games. From like the 80’s to a few years ago. I guess that’s gone also.

Seriously, what a shithole though.

A lot of the older dorms at LSU are shitholes but they did comes with a lot of fun, memories and stories to tell. I was only in a dorm my freshman year, but it was a wild time. I would never want to go back to a dorm again but I was glad I did it my freshman year, met a lot of great people that I am still close with today.

We should have a thread on dorm stories at LSU. Would be fun to read.
