Criminal Investigation Command spokesman Chris Grey said investigators have "credible information" that unnamed drugs were involved.

The soldiers were identified as Spc. Joshua Diamond of Plymouth, Massachusetts, and Pfc. Matthew Disney of Aberdeen, Maryland.

The Army said the field artillery Firefinder radar operators were part of the 2nd Battalion, 319th Airborne Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team.

As someone who has spent some time in Fayettenam, it is one of the most depressing places on earth except when you are floating under a canopy.

Yeah, I was looking for feedback from military/former military personnel.

I'm former military but my comment is going to focus on the incredibly lethal Fentanyl. Seems to me that it's quite easy to OD on an illicit dose of the stuff. Could happen to any young casual illegal drug user.

We'll see.

Fentanyl has been a nationwide problem, don’t know if it’s involved, but it’s epidemic in the bigger cities, right now, as been the case for a while

These young folks have to realize pot is dangerous before it's too late.

Stays in system less than pot, probably why experimenting. I remember getting piss tested once a month.

Yep...

quote:

Fentanyl, heroin’s synthetic cousin, is among the worst offenders.

It’s deadly because it’s so much stronger than heroin, as shown by the photograph above, which was taken at the New Hampshire State Police Forensic Laboratory. On the left is a lethal dose of heroin, equivalent to about 30 milligrams; on the right is a 3-milligram dose of fentanyl, enough to kill an average-sized adult male.

I second that as I spent some time at Bragg. Fayetteville has to be the worst town outside a military base.

Fayettenam, your one stop for pawn shops, strip clubs and cheap motels. There's no place like home.

The 82nd can be a tough gig. It is a high optempo unit that is tough on soldiers and families and while it isn't as true as in the past soldiers often spend their entire career at Bragg. Outside of base it has the typical strip clus, dive bars, liquor stores, and tattoo shops with not a lot else.

I have no idea how much this had to do with the soldiers in question making a fatal mistake with drugs but it is an environment conducive to driving people to drink or drug. I spent way more time dealing with soldiers doing stupid shite on and off base than I should have though in the early 90s it was more alcohol than drugs. Pissing hot for MJ was an issue but they didn't kill themselves or start fights with the natives.

I spent a few years there. A couple of guys in my unit killed people (not in combat) and didn’t think twice about it. I was pulling CQ one day and one of the guys came in a said “hey Eitek1, call the MP’s. I asked what for he said “I just killed somebody and I want to turn myself in”.

My other buddy killed 3 people. He asked them to leave him alone. They should have…

They were both self defense. One walked, one got a murder charge. One guy on Pope cut up his wife and left her in the trunk of her car at Crosscreek mall. That kind of stuff happens when your under perpetual stress.

Unfortunately, they did not get to bury their jump wings in the proper place or proper time.

For those that don't know paratroopers traditionally bury their jump wings in the dropzone on their last jump.

I was a paratrooper and this is the first time I've heard that. Not saying you aren't accurate just commenting on the variation in traditions depending on where and when.

Pretty much all of my buddies that go there end up getting blackout drunk every night or doing a bunch of shite, this isn’t shocking.

If this were the Navy, we'd have it solved in an hour....well, 45ish minutes.
