You are the GM - Hypothetical Drew Retires
The legend has retired....You have to make a decision, a pivotal moment for the franchise. Currently, you have only one QB under contract, a lot of dead money, but a team that is talented and can win now. Having Drew back would have been your number one option, but you have to move on. Do you take:

Choice A - Hill - age, 30 when season starts
Pros: provides a spark, talented runner, hard nosed player, well liked by teammates, contract expected to be team friendly with multiple FA contracts pending

Cons: no experience, average accuracy, ok arm strength, no real film to go off as to whether this guy can lead your team, playbook will need revising

Expected salary - 15-18M yr

Choice B - Bridgewater, Age, 27 when season starts
Pros: Proven leader, extremely popular with teammates, has shown he can win with team, handles adversity well, team responds to him, grasp of modified playbook, multiple check down passer, has stated desire to play long term for the team, confidence and game planning grew during 5 win span as starter

Cons: Limited mobility, average accuracy, injury history may be a factor to durability, playbook will need revising, salary requirements will be in top half of league, possible cap issues

Expected salary - 24-28M yr

Choice C: unknown
draft a qb with the intentions of handing it off either immediately, or with a stop gap retread taking snaps for some/all of of the first season.

Expected salary - 1-5M/yr depending on draft slot

Choice D: unknown
FA signing

Expected salary - ???/yr

State your case for and reasoning for Mrs Gayle and remember to show your work.

No they don't. They do have $21M in dead money tied to Brees & $2M in dead money tied to TB if either leave the org.

Sign Teddy, bring in Mariota and keep Hill as the gadget guy he is.

Teddy - 3yr ($60M)
Mariota - 2yr ($18M)
Hill - 3yr ($18M)

average accuracy

He's actually considered a pretty accurate passer overall in his career. I'd like TB but I believe 24-28 is pretty damn steep for him. I'd want him around 20M yr but I understand he could go somewhere else and get paid more.

I don't think TH deserves a 15-18M yr yet imo, I wouldn't pay him more than 10-12M yr. Whatever we do we need a legit 3rd RB, a new LG, and another WR.

his 27M contract is up in two years, so one year and then hes holding out for new deal

Choice A: Play Taysom under RFA Tag with him being assumed starter and chance to prove himself to earn full time starting monies.

Sign Andy Dalton decent money to be veteran backup.

starting qb's don't sign for 20 mill a year. This isn't 2014.

I'm aware of this, maybe it's 2yr ($50M) and If the Saints make the playoffs he get a long term deal....

If you're going to beat a Teddy drum... I'm fairly convinced that 27.5-28 mill a yr (simplistic terms) will be the floor for starting negotiations.

Lets say he does and is successful: we will now be negotiating with a 31 yr old Unrestricted FA in the 25M yr range.

Unless he wants to be tutored under payton, doubt we can afford him. hes almost certainly gonna get offered low tier starter money somewhere else...like 15M range

And? There is a franchise tag if needed for negotiations.

We'll probably be more like the 30 mill range.

Tank for Lawrence. Literally throw the damn season. The saints would be set for the next 15+ years with a guy on a rookie contract who could come in and help immediately compete for championships. I am more than happy to watch the saints lose one year in exchange for being set at QB the next 15 years.

Teddy not signing 2 yr deal...agent would be crucified

27.5 - 28 mil a year

If he signs with us, I think this is high. He has proven that he recognizes value not just in dollars.

re: You are the GM - Hypothetical Drew Retires
Hill is my starter.

I draft a QB who is dual threat, passes with accuracy. (Maybe trade for one). Im not handing over the team to rookie but i encourage peyton to let him play 3rd quarters of all preseason games and let him learn whatever he needs to. If i trade for one then he can compete during preseason season.

I encourage peyton to continue to change up qbs in real games if new qb proves able by last preseason.

Now you lost me...franchise will be 35+ by that time. We'd be lucky to still afford morestead.

Youre correct...
