Would you take Alex Smith for less than $10 million if we can't sign Jameis?
Reading an article on ESPN just now, and it talked about how WFT didn't want Alex Smith last off-season and not sure about this season. If Jameis decides his price is too high for us, and Alex Smith would be willing to sign a low contract with high incentives based on his performance and health, would you be ok with giving him a look? If not, would you be willing to if the Saints drafted a QB as well?

Here is the ESPN link if interested though not Saints related.

No. You can’t count on him to stay healthy and you’re not winning a Super Bowl with him if he does and he’s not a long term solution

I would rather rebuild with someone with any shred of potential

Spoiler: there's no "long term solution" for at least another year.

It's more likely that we draft in a year or two, or we sign a non-extended rookie-contract guy (think drew lock, minshew, trubisky, hell maybe Baker)

Or a combination of the two.

Jameis could be a long term solution. Even Taysom could be and they’re both better short term options than Smith.

Threw 8 INTs in 6 starts last year. Couple of fumbles as well

No. If we can’t get a decent option just rank the season. He’s decent enough to win 6-7 games

Someone would have to REALLY overpay Winston for him to leave town with the opportunity he has in front of him here. Maybe someone will but I kinda doubt it

What are the downvotes for? Speak up.
Y’all think Alex Smith can win you a Super Bowl? I guess y’all didn’t watch him last year.

I agree he won’t win a SB, but I wouldn’t judge him based off of his time w Wash.

I do think he’d be a great vet to bring in if they want to go the rookie route.

Why not? That’s who he is now. You want to go back 3+ years ago and 17 surgeries to judge him? He’s not ever going to be what he used to be

I think the only possibility of it happening would be if a team has their mind dead set on someone in the draft and a team trades up ahead of them to take that person. There are a few franchises that has a history of overpaying for QBs. Dallas would possibly be one of them if they feel Dak won't be ready or isn't worth the risk.
