Why has the Saints helmet gotten progressively lighter through history?

It almost seems more beige now than gold.

That first one looks like a fake someone bought on Craigslist.

I like real gold one better

My guess is the change from reebok to nike, that's when the pants went tan.

No difference in the 2nd and 3rd it is just the lighting of the pic. The gold on the entire uniform changed when NIKE took over.

Nike doesn't make helmets. Or paint

I know for a fact the Saints helmet color hasn't changed one iota since at least 2000 when we went to the smaller FDL. I dont think it was darker in the 1990s or even 1980s - Google Everett and Hebert and they look the same shade to me - especially in outdoor pics.
I think the Superdome was darker or tougher to take pics in back in the 70s and 80s and that's why the helmets looked darker in a lot of footage.
Check out Archie's helmet in this pic from early 80s - looks like the same gold as today IMO. Only in the early days late 60's early 70's were the helmets more old gold.

The first pic is the best. Original gold needs to return to helmets

The sticker on the first helmet is peeling off. Get the gorilla glue.

I agree that it's simply different lighting. For example, Google Saints vs 49ers and check out the images. Our helmet looks a shade or two lighter outdoors. But the dome went to LED lighting a couple years ago so now it's closer to the outdoor lighting look.

This site is GOAT as far as historical uniforms go
Looks like there was a very slight change to a lighter color coinciding with the 2012 Nike change.
But there is a very noticeable lightening on the helmets (and uniform in general) from 1980 to 1981.
Also, 1974 seems to be a 1 year outlier from all other years with a much more yellowish tone.

I've been convinced that they lightened the helmet color as well with the switch to Nike to better match the lightening of the shade of gold across the jerseys and pants. I seem to recall an article in the off-season that even said they were trying to darken the shade of gold back a notch.
Pretty clear to me that these helmets were a bronzer shade of gold.

Those 76-85 unis were bad arse. Bring back those with more of a darker gold like the color rush and those uniforms would be money.

Those uniforms are god damn beautiful. I think the problem with that gold, though, is that it's hard to replicate it on merchandise. So, Nike, or whoever will have the uniform contract, won't want to go back to the original color.
