Same age as snake Boogie and same weight. Needs explosion and leg drive to hold up in the trenches. People talk like snake Boogie will be a shell of his former self and slither back around the all star break. Why should WE bo lieve that AO is just going to slot right back in at DE?

Gods plan

Because we as New Orleans sport fans are still getting over Cousins achillies.

On a serious note, its definitely an issue. And I believe its a huge reason we went at Davenport. It would have been Can Jordan, Hendrickson, Loewen, (possibly rankins, but probably not considerinf our lack of DT depth)), and other lesser guys running DE.

Davenport is our future opposite of cam and Okafor will just be that other guy that will still play a shite ton when he gets healthy. You need 3 solid DE’s to wear out an offensive line imo.

Maybe talking it all out is your thing right now. But my thing is waiting to see him play and then talking it all out to use your words.

Goat out!

It's crazy to me that a DE coming back from an Achilles injury seems less devastating than a center like Boogie.

I feel like the get off for a pass rush would take a huge hit

Okafor will lose some of his explosiveness, but he will put a lot less wear and tear on his tendon, as he will only be playing 40-45 snaps a game. Boggie will be running on that thing 25-30 minutes a game for 82 games.

C) Trey Hendrickson and George Johnson aren't too shabby in the rotation either. The rookie will also need snaps even if he's slow to establish himself.

Summary: Okafor is a potential pleasant surprise, not a crucial piece for 2018.

I agree. Saints aren't relying solely on Okafor for starting production from that position group.

1. Cam Jordan all pro DE
2. Davenport the no.14 pick in the 2018 draft
3. Okafor
4. Hendrickson 2nd year 3rd round pick

everything behind them would be a DE by committee approach

5. serviceable vets like Johnson
6. Muhammad raw 2nd year 6th round pass rushing specialist
7. DTs that can play DE snaps

The only team that banked on Boogie by comparison is the only team that didn't neeed him. 2 MVP players and 2 additional All star players coming off back to back championships.

Robert Mathis is your closest position/injury comparison. At 34 he came back after a year even though he required 9 initial surgeries for an infection caused by the initial surgery. He started 10 of 15 games with 7 sacks. Following year he started 12 of 14 and finished with 5 sacks.

Frankly it is a shitty injury without much of a list of athletes returning to their prior form. It appears he's put in the work towards his prescribed rehab regimen but genetics also plays a key part. Dominique Wilkins tore his in 1992 at the age of 32 and came back a year later kicking arse. Some people just have superior genetics.

People forget about that kid from Miami also in Al-Quadin Muhammad, but that kid though raw has real explosive ability. He was a force in preseason last year, but couldn't get on the field when the regular season started. That may be the same problem this season now that they have added Davenport and all, but Muhammad has an explosive first step and should have gotten much stronger now with a whole year in the weight room. The Saints are really loaded with pass rushing talent this year.

Didn't forget AQM. Just lumping him into the same category as Okafor. Could be a pleasant surprise but nothing huge expected this year (and maybe ever).
