Why did Payton waste that play in garbage time?

So dumb - that play would have won us the NFCCG or the Vikings game last season and instead he pulls it out when we’re up 2 scores with under 2 minutes left

Not garbage time. Saints needed a conversion. He just stomped on the Buc’s throat like Burrow on 3rd and 17 against the Longhorns last year.

Maybe they want to soften the defense when Taysom gets it behind the LOS

Because Brady sometimes finds a way to beat your arse with 2 minutes left. You can’t just take it for granted that the scoring was over.

I’m not sure if you’re familiar with the technique by which one drags his balls across the forehead of a hated rival. That’s what happened today.

We needed a first down to ice the game and we needed a division win in week one. I'm good with it.

Besides, that shite is coming back

You’re all missing the point of that play. The reason it was called is because it was a “safe” time to reveal it... and to show the rest of the league that the Saints will call that play.

How many times does a defense converge on Taysom Hill the instant he subs into the game? They have no fear of him doing anything other than running.

A play like that will make defenses start to loosen up. The Saints purposefully put that play on tape for all the NFL to see.

That play was already on film from last year though.

Exactly this. I posted in the game thread after Taysom went for negative yards on third down that he would be much more effective if he uncorked it every once in a while
