that is a huge upgrade for us. We have been at slightly below meh for years at TE now.

not in FA this year and most likely not with our first pick in the draft unless we traded up. Even then those returns most likely would not happen in year 1 with a rookie TE amidst what we hope will be a SB campaign.

Saints will still consider drafting a TE if they can get one they value highly at the right spot in the draft to eventually take over the gig long term.

Drew Brees is an 18 year vet by the way.

We definitely can’t find better. At least not in free agency. Also generally takes a year or so to develop as TE can be a tough adjustment. TE also easily the biggest need we had.

I don’t believe the ridiculous narrative this board created that we’re “all in” any more than any other year that we’ve had Drew. Our other free agent pickups have been solid and the draft picks we traded were all for younger players and a potential future Qb. With that being said it was the prudent thing to grab a guy that can help Brees now and a new guy next year like Cook

TE is a major need and he’s the best of what’s left this year.

Not being a jerk, but I’d like to see your list of who you think we can sign that’s better and younger.

I will bump this thread every time he scores after he blazed by a LB or high pointed a safety.

So eight times, minimum, this board will be reminded of your lack of foresight.

Oh, and I would bump it again when he plays in his second Pro Bowl, but he will be preparing for the Super Bowl instead

that is definitely true, particularly with the departure of Watson

. That’s kinda true, we haven’t had “that guy” for a while, but Watson has been above average when he was here (not here in 2016-2017). It’s just that 6’3” and 38 years old doesn’t get you that jump ball type TE that tends to dominate now.

I, for one, am looking forward to Brees to Cook for the TD on down and goal plays.

Not to pile on but this is our biggest need and he’s the best available option that can deliver results right away.

Seems like a natural statement to put a bunch of suggestions behind right? That is unless you have no clue what you are talking about.

1. He is the top free agent tight end

2. He is fringe top 10 at his position

3. Tight End is by far our worse position last year

If for some crazy reason the team doesn't get Cook signed you'll see why. This offense was crippled last year because of lacking a pass catching T.E. option. If Cook stays healthy this should affect the offense exponentially.

We said the same thing about Ben Watson when he first came, but Jared Cook actually has more upside and has also never been in a system that has really utilized him whereas Watson had previously been in the Patriots scheme and never really did much. I think it’ll work out better than it did for us with Watson.

quite simply because its an area of great need for us and he is a skilled player that can be had at a fair price and that makes him the perfect fit for our team.

the draft is a crap shoot and this idea of "just draft a guy" sounds great and easy to do but 4 out of 5 guys drafted turn out to be busts or just emergency bodies as backups at best

Graham
Brate
Reed
McDonald

debatable for me. Reed is insanely talented but his injury history speaks for itself. Hard to rate a guy over another when you cant depend on him.

Graham has lost a lot of his athletic upside from his injury a few years ago. He can still be effective in the passing game but he isnt someone I would say is definitely over Cook at this point.

Brate/McDonald both have plus traits and arent bad players but Cook has more upside IMO.

Goedert is another one who wasnt mentioned who I think has awesome upside. I still am very high on him although being behind Ertz does limit his ability to showcase himself.

Also surprised you didnt mention Walker or Burton.

You gave me your opinion. Give me ranking and facts.

Engram hasn’t done more than Cook

Graham has regressed mightily

Howard and Henry I agree have tremendous upside but has been plagued by injuries and hasn’t put up cooks numbers (2018)

No need to entertain Brate Reed Njoku McDonald

Enron I would give a tie to.

So I rank Cooks between 5-7.

LINK

No matter how you sort it Cook will remain top 6 in every Category.

I’m gonna agree with you on this one. Fans are way over blowing this signing. I would rather have him than what we had but that doesn’t mean it’s a HUGE upgrade. Downvotes engages
