I don't recall Jim Henderson having PBP experience when he came to NOLA to take over WWL sports for Hap.
Anyways Hoss is a local, has sports broadcasting experience, has a good voice, and currently does in-game hosting for the Saints.
Henderson did JUST play by play, but Strief did more for WWL / Saints Radio Network - hosting shows, etc. Mike Hoss could easily do that.
