What’s the thinking on finding our third QB?

If Taysom is gonna Taysom we still need a third. We spent heavily on Teddy in this role, and that insurance policy paid dividends despite not being able to take advantage of it in the end.

Are we just going to wait and see what happens in free agency? Seems we have too many other needs to try and draft a qb this year? Do we have the cap room left to try and roll the dice on Jameis? Or do we just wait to see who doesn’t have a chair when the music stops?

I would not be surprised if they wait for the next round of FA after the draft and try and pick up an experienced guy looking for another shot.

CSP will grab a cheap old vet and draft or UDFA one as well.
Would assume even with everything going on he will still carry 4 into camp.

If he truly believes Taysom is the future, I cannot see bringing someone like Jameis in.

Huh.. Looking at his College stats and realized a backup QB at Wazzu is Drew Bledsoe's son, John Bledsoe.

We are old.

On the contrary I think a situation like this could be the catalyst to hit reset on his career. It takes all of the pressure off, he can learn under drew and Sean, and then try and take the starting spot from Taysom or get comfortable as a backup. He’s not a plug and play starter anywhere just yet I don’t think, but he’s still young and still has potential to turn it around.

I agree it could make sense for Jameis, but if Sean truly thinks Taysom is the successor and he truly wants him as the #2, Jameis does not really fit the #3 role (or likely would not accept it). Sean could risk stunting Taysom's development if he is looking over his shoulder at Jameis.

Meh I don’t see it being much different than having teddy here for Taysom. You could just as easily replace “looking over your shoulder” with competition pushes everyone to get better.

Also the #3 role isn’t your typical one either bc of what taysom does. It wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world to have a qb that can come in for drew but is good enough to allow taysom to continue his thing.

The rub in this case is if jameis or whoever is taking snaps from taysoms transition to a starter. If that’s the case though, why even bother bringing in a third qb? Carry two, and worry about taysoms backup next year.

The mere fact that we are bringing in a third tells us all we need to know about how we plan to continue to use taysom. That leaves room for a player like jameis to be a qb3 with more of a qb2 role imo.

Jameis stock is that if a backup right now I think, but his value still lies in his potential. Whether that’s here or elsewhere.

this ^^^^^

odds are he will be looking to pick up a reliable backup that some team releases after drafting a QB and then pick up whoever is the best non drafted QB out there as insurance and camp body

Agree about an experienced old vet that could do enough if Brees got injured like the Teddy situation last year.

I like Josh McCown.

With Taysom as the solid number 2, go with an available veteran QB:

Kyle Sloter, QB, Lions. Age: 26

Matt Moore, QB, Chiefs. Age: 36

Josh McCown, QB, Eagles. Age: 41

Mike Glennon, QB, Raiders. Age: 30

The difference is that Sean has stated that Taysom is number 2. Therefore if Drew gets hurt for a period of time, Taysom takes over at QB. Jameis would not be interested in that kind of role.
