What was your honest reaction when Brees became a Saint?

I was very positive about it, but never in my wildest dreams did I imagine he'd break so many incredible records. We were pretty QB deprived most of my young life, so I'd have just been happy with him being above average.

The reason I ask is I remember many Saints fans upset we signed a guy that had such a horrible injury for a QB. I remember one guy in particular saying, "Typical Saints! Wasting all that money on a QB with no arm. He'll probably never even play!".

What was your honest reaction?

I don’t really remember but I was probably cautiously optimistic.

I didn't know about the injury at the time so I was very excited about the acquisition due his performance in San Diego and his reputation as a viable QB but, with Payton, he exceeded all my expectations for him and became one of the most dominant QBs in league history

I was absolutely ecstatic. We hired Sean Payton, signed Drew Brees, drafted Reggie Bush and had one hell of a draft class. I had never been more excited for a Saints season and it panned out

It’s my worst sports take of all time but I wanted a true franchise QB........

I was borderline ecstatic. I had watched Brees a few times when he was at Purdue and thought he looked way better than anything we had when he was at SD. But to be perfectly clear, I had NO idea we were getting what we got.

My mother is as rabid a Saints fan as I am, and she would tell anyone that she wasn’t sure why I was beating the table for us to go after Drew (she was worried about the medicals). I knew that James Andrews had done the surgery, and that he was very optimistic.......and James Andrews is the best.

I was ECSTATIC when Drew was signed and I told everyone in the family (and friends) that they needed to be excited.

If you remember, in Drew’s first preseason action......he was struggling initially. Some of my family members were freaking the hell out, and I had to keep telling them “just wait, he will be fine and he will be the best thing to ever happen to us (the fan base).

My mom still, to this day, tells everyone “he knew that Drew was going to be great for us before we even signed him”

Was unsure about the injury and of course Satan being in Maimi bouncing him. Watching Reggie at USC and the shite he pulled I thought we had the next coming of Barry Sanders. After the prior regime this whole 2006 season was awesome. Oh yeah and the Katrina thing that changed us forever.

Really all these coaches and players made a year I will never forget.

Loved it......

Until

I saw the first OTA. And he couldn’t throw the ball 20 yards. I told my Dad we were in trouble.

That crow still taste good.

I was ecstatic and shocked never having thought we would ever attract a top 10 QB to the New Orleans Saints

Honestly, I was pissed. I was 100% convinced Vince Young was the future of the NFL that the saints were going to regret passing on. Im so happy I was wrong.

I was 21 and drunk most the time when this happened. I imagined I probably wanted Dante Cullpeper over an injured Brees. I was fired up when we drafted Reggie.

I actually started a Facebook group (When those were a thing ) called DREW BREES WILL TAKE THE SAINTS TO THE SUPERBOWL.
Wasn't sure I even believed it at the time but I def used to brag and say "I called it "
