Many athletes of ALL sports say once you contemplate retirement mentally you're done and might as well retire. Also once you come back after contemplating you'll regret it because of your performance results. So Saints be smart work out the PR part and let him walk.

I'm reminded of John Elway sobbing after the J'ville loss in '96. Told his wife, his agent and Pat Bowlen that he would be retiring.

And the rest, as they say, is history.

Brett Favre came out of retirement and led the Vikings to an NFC championship game in 2009.

Just one example of the OP not being all inclusive.

One time I was sure I was going to run past a 6'7" 290 pound lineman. I thought he was slow. I was extremely wrong.

..that 100% mental is bullshite. There is lots of athleticism involved.

Mayweather retired then came back and made millions against Conor. Forman retired and came back at 374783827e years old and won the heavyweight title. Favruh considered retiring for a decade or so before making the NFC title game (bless his heart). Jordan retired and came back to three-peat.

I say let the man do what he wants to do.
