The depth chart shows Vonn Bell, Marcus Williams, and Chris Dueling Banjo. And Banjo has made his mark as a special teamer mostly. If Bell or Williams go down with injury we're screwed.

You’re right. I can see us using our 2nd on someone.

I don’t understand why we don’t like Banjo he plays well when he’s in.. I can’t think of a mistake he’s made. I don’t care how and when its done but when he gets a chance at a turnover he capitalizes on it.

you're right, he has played well in limited duty. But he's 29 and has been in the league 6 years and has never been a starter. You gotta wonder why.

Safety, along with Linebacker depth, has been the most underrated offseason need for us this year and im not sure why more people aren't talking about it. There are a ton of good safety prospects this year, so i guess thats who we are planning to take with our 2nd rounder?? I don't know, either way, I would like to see a safety and WR signing here in late free agency.

Tre Boston would be a nice option at safety

We're gonna have a bunch of guys invited to camp and one or two guys may earn their way outside of the draft. Hoping to stay healthy isn't a great plan, but it seems to be the one we're on

Do we really need one? Kurt was awful and barely played. If Robinson comes back healthy you have a solid nickel and won’t need to play three safeties

Well to be fair if we lose two starting WR's or Tackles or two starting RB's is there that much of a difference?

Banjo is getting money like a guy who will play a few more snaps on defense

You could say this about most positions. What happens if Armstead goes down again? Or if Kamara or Davis gets hurt? God forbid Thomas, Jordan, or Brees miss time.

Having at least one (potentially) legit backup is a decent position. You'd like more but it's near impossible to have depth across the board at every position every year.

We're just used to having better than normal safety depth since we drafted Vaccaro until this this year. And really last year did anyone want Coleman on the field? It's basically the same situation as last year minus the black hole of snaps that was Coleman.

I'd sign Glover quin on a 1 year deal for the min. He is 33 but he def has been a solid player.

There is always a good 3rd safety hanging around but most of them want a chance to start

Wonder what kind of money Eric Berry wants. NOLA gives him a legitimate shot at a ring

I think it's more health with berry.

The cowboys would have been perfect for him but he left without a deal.

I think he signs during training camp

I think we like him. And yeah you're right, he does play well when he's in. I just think he's so valuable to us on ST as well, and with as many 3 safety looks as we run, we'd rather a guy that can play there full time and let Banjo contribute fully on ST with the occasional spell and in blowouts.

That was mainly because we had Vaccaro playing slot. Last year we barely used 3, and PJ/a LB played a lot more.

Looking at the snap counts, all the safeties combined played 208% of the snaps.

That means we would have had a 3rd safety on the field for 8% of the snaps max.

Compare that to CB where the total snaps were 272%, meaning a third corner played 72% of the snaps.

And just to complete the comparison the LBs played 220% of the snaps, meaning a third LB played 20% of the snaps (more than twice the amount of a third safety).

The Dline, as expected, usually played with 4 on the field (combining for 400%).
