Watching the XFL. Would love the NFL to do a few of these things.
The first thing is hearing the officials discussing things. I think that’s a great idea and it holds the officials accountable. It also gives fans an idea of why they make a call a certain way.

The other thing is the kickoffs. The nfl is on the verge of getting rid of the kickoff. The XFL has it figured out. For those that haven’t seen it. The kick return team lines up on line the 30 in a straight line. The kicking team lines up on the 35. The kicker is still lined up on his own 30. The kick return team has one guy in the back who is catching the ball. Nobody from either team can move until the return man catches the ball.

I really think this could help the kickoff avoid going extinct.

Even is they have great ideas and should be implemented, the NFL would never because the commissioner is an arrogant prick.

it removes the violent collisions they are trying to remove from the game and adds a new level of excitement since if one guy misses the tackle its off to the races for 40+ yards or maybe a TD

if the nfl wanted accountability, they would have accountability. They don't want accountability. Can we keep discussions in the realm of reality.

Most important thing to me to incorporate into the nfl is the refs communication, that was cool to hear and also holds them accountable

Kickoffs are fine how they are in the NFL. The changes they made reduced injuries like they wanted.

The ref communication and changes to onside kick could be reviewed

Yeah those are really nice rules for the XFL. Isn’t the play clock shorter as well?

On the kickoff, if the ball doesn’t go past the 20, it’s a penalty. Offense gets the ball at opponents 45.

Yeah the full access to the inner workings of official replay, play calling, and real time coach analysis is fascinating. Not sure how most of that would translate to NFL games though. Feels like they’re giving a lot of info away to other teams.

Because it's not even a real play about 90% of the time.

This

My first thought was "this is cool but the NFL will never do it because they won't want it to appear as if they are copying the XFL"

Unfortunately, this takes away the possibility of an ONSIDE KICK, which can make the end of games even more boring. 2 mins left; your team scores to get within 7 or 3 points, but then you HAVE to kick to the other team and give up a possession AUTOMATICALLY.

No thanks.

Almost every player on offense and defense have communication devices in their helmets, so the coaches can talk to the whole team pre snap instead of just the quarterback or middle linebacker like in the NFL.

Never made sense to me to just have one guy have communications.

Nope. You can alert the officials that you would like to attempt an onside kick and it goes back to the regular (NFL) kickoff spot.

The only thing this eliminates is the surprise onside like we did in the Super Bowl

The NFL will be watching the XLF game & how it affects play in many ways. They took the two most boring plays in the game, kick-off & extra-point, and greatly improved them. The running clock & the “spotter” official are great.

Will the NFL consider adapting any of it ? How many decades did it take them to install the 2 point conversion? The only thing constant is change, unless we are speaking of the NFL.
