11. New Orleans Saints

Derek Barnett, DE, Tennessee

After trading Brandin Cooks to the Patriots, New Orleans now has three of the top 42 picks in this draft and five of the top 103. They used their first four selections last year on defense, but still need help on that side, even after signing Alex Okafor, who's a solid player but does not solve their need for another pass-rusher. Barnett racked up incredible production in his three seasons at Tennessee (52 tackles for loss and 33 sacks). He uses his hands well as a pass-rusher, and he has the athleticism to drop into coverage occasionally.

Fwiw, he has CB's Marshon Lattimore, Tredavious White, Kevin King, and Gareon Conley already off the board when the Saints pick at #32

quote:

32. New Orleans Saints (from Patriots)

Quincy Wilson, CB, Florida

Playing in a division against Mike Evans, Julio Jones and Kelvin Benjamin, the Saints could use a corner with some size. At 6-foot-1½, Wilson has a good length, and he displays strong instincts and outstanding ball skills (14 career pass breakups and six interceptions).

I'd be extremely happy with that... which means no chance that is going to happen.

If we get Butler I'd rather see a safety at 32

Like Barnett a lot. Don't like either of the Florida corners. And what he said, I'd rather more safety help honestly.

Obi the Safety from UCONN at 32 would be a good pick

I would be OK with trading the 32 pick to a team who may want a QB and picking up an additional 2nd, 4th and 5th round pick if not more to make the move down. It all depends on which QB is there and what team is interested in drafting him.

Especially if a team like Cleveland who has the first pick in the second round wants to draft a QB at 32 in the first round for the 5th year option.

I would love the first pick in second and fourth and fifth rounds as compensation to move down one spot.

That's why I want to keep the 32 pick.

The Saints need to continue to upgrade the CB position. Wilson would do that.

How long has McShay been doing this? Out of all these years, this is the first one I remember liking from him.

We'll be giving NE back the 32 pick when we sign Butler, so won't matter. Barnett at #11 and everything after that is gravy. I would think WR/TE knowing Payton with round 2 pick and rd 3 picks LB/OL/DE for depth. Will be one happy Saints fan if we get Butler and Barnett.

If we trade for Butler we want have #32 or 2nd round pick. So I believe we go with Saftey at which everyone we have or Payton might just go after a TE.

Round 2, (61), Vonn Bell, S, Ohio State
Round 4, (120), David Onyemata, DT, Manitoba

We did not use our first four picks on defense last year.
Thomas at 2 is a WR. The author is wrong.
