LINKShane Buchele

Field awareness and passing accuracy.

What I see in this video is a QB that 1.) constantly has his eyes downfield looking for receivers. 2) looks off his receivers and uses the pump fake to pull the defense off his target route. 3) throws into tight coverage and places the ball where only his receivers can get it. 4) quick pass decisions after the snap shows he reads defenses pre snap and has confidence.

edit add: He also has pro sport pedigree similar to Mahomes. Not saying he is Mahomes but he does have that rare drive and leadership some players get from the Dads pro career.

Brees rewrote record books at Purdue and finished 3rd in the Heisman voting. He maybe didn't have the ideal measurables when he was drafted, but it wasn't like he was some relatively unknown commodity coming out of college.

Buechele was beaten out for the starting job at Texas and ended his career at a lower level of competition. Generally there is a reason for that. He may be an ok QB, but to say he is a "Brees clone" is a bit silly. Brees had PLENTY of bona fides coming out of college

His quick decisions seem to be one read and go. I do not see him going through several progressions or moving people with his eyes. He tends to lock onto his first read in these highlights.

I'm definitely not going to call him a Drew Brees clone, but I like Shane a lot. I wouldn't mind taking him in the mid rounds and see what kind of NFL game he has.

It was a whole different era of College Football when Brees was at playing.

Good QB's at UT do not lose their jobs on the field, its always the politics from donations that makes those decisions.

Saints don't have to find the next Drew Brees. A lot of different QBs can have success under SP. If you are trying to find the next Drew Brees then Saints will be destined to fail. You don't need a Drew Brees #2 to have a good QB and successful offense.

True. But if you have someone similar then the transition is much easier. We do not know what Payton offense is, all we know is what Paytons's Brees offense is. Would his offense be different with a big body and big arm qb like Rothlisburg or would Payton still a quick precision pass offense? Knowing this would tell us if you need a Brees clone or not.

I’m not being sarcastic, I truly feel all the OPs who do this are horrible people. And for whatever reason it’s rampant on this board, people start clickbait threads way too often.

Eta: Thank you OP

Brock Purdy is sort of a comp but we also don't need to necessarily be looking for a Brees clone

Honestly, I’m surprised people were still naming their kid Shane in late 90’s early 00’s.

If clone QBs are available why would you get a Brees over a Mahomes clone

Let’s get Nick Mullens and roll.

He is killing it for me in Madden 21 right now.

I love Brees as much as the next guy but I’ve wondered how a Saints offense with much more mobile QB would look like. I feel like it would really open up the playbook
