Become? Heisman has been that way forever. There was really no pure era of it. Not in anyone here’s lifetime, at least. Joe Theisman’s name didn’t originally rhyme with the trophy.

Not to mention, not a single defensive player on that list.

Luck should be #2

What he's doing for the Colts right now is even better than Mahomes. He'll end up with more TD passes too.

Is this the same Luck who is:

11th in comp pct
12th in ypg
9th in passer rtg
28th in ypa
on pace for 46 tds vs Mahomes pace of 54.

I heard Booger on Off the Bench this morning say how can Mahomes not get the MVP if he throws 50+ TDs. Then when asked about all his turnovers he says it's not about the stats because some come in garbage time.

I guess you haven't watched the Colts the past couple weeks then.

None of his picks were garbage time.

A two week stretch is what you're hanging your hat on. Pathetic rebuttal mate.

You must be new to the MVP in the NFL.

Go look back at the past 20 winners. Hell go look back at the past 40 winners:

NFL MVPs

It HEAVILY skews QBs first, and then HBs second. Not even close.

You have to have some freak historical defensive or receiving year to even be considered. I'm not sure any defenders this year are doing that. Only two receivers are doing something crazy this year.

I'm a little surprised Goff hasn't been getting much consideration. I don't know his stats, but he seems to be playing at a very high level.

I think most people are in consensus it is the offensive system of McVay and the players around him that make him what he is.

He can definitely make plays, but I see the merit in that argument. He isn't even the MVP on his on team.

Mahomes has something like 70 more attempts than Brees. That’s two full games worth of additional passing stats. Stats in a vacuum can be deceiving.

This is the entire reason that so much emphasis is placed on passer rating.

People dont give credit to Goff because he looked like a bust in year 1.

Which only points even more to McVay being a big part of his success. Not saying it's right or wrong, but the narrative is there.

This guy basically supports your point. Gurley & Donald are the only ones not a QB on your list, and basically implies Donald would need to break sack record to be considered.

MSN Article

quote:

1. New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees (last week: 1): The 39-year-old is on pace to set new single-season records for completion percentage (76.9) and passer rating (126.9). He was nearly perfect Sunday in a blowout victory over the defending Super Bowl champions, and his Saints are now 9-1.

2. Los Angeles Rams QB Jared Goff (last week: 5): It was Goff, not Todd Gurley, who led the way for the Rams offense in an historic victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. He’s posted passer ratings above 110 in five consecutive games for the 10-1 Rams.

3. Los Angeles Rams DT Aaron Donald (last week: 6): But that win probably doesn’t happen if not for Donald, who was dominant up front and now has 14.5 sacks and three forced fumbles. He could still make a run at the single-season sack record of 22.5.

4. Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley (last week: 4): The league’s leading rusher and touchdown leader wasn’t a big factor against the Chiefs, which could hurt his case as well as those of Goff and Donald. Brees has a serious edge right now.

5. Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes (last week: 2): A five-turnover performance against the Rams puts the second-year first-round pick in a tough spot. He’s had a hell of a season but is losing momentum in this race. He now has 12 turnovers in 11 games. Brees has one.

6. Los Angeles Chargers QB Philip Rivers (last week: 3): The league’s fourth-highest-rated passer remains in contention, but a two-interception outing in a home loss to the Denver Broncos really hurts.

7. Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck (last week: NR): Now a top-10 passer who has more interceptions than anybody except Mahomes, the well-protecting, red-hot Luck is gaining steam as the Colts streak toward a potential playoff berth.

8. Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (last week: NR): His rate-based numbers aren’t there, but Roethlisberger came up big when it mattered against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He has the Steelers riding a six-game winning streak.

9. Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson (last week: NR): The 29-year-old has a 117.1 passer rating and an 18-to-2 touchdown-to-interception ratio dating back to Week 3, and the Seahawks are 5-3 in those games.

10. Houston Texans QB Deshaun Watson (last week: NR): The second-year first-round pick wasn’t good against the Washington Redskins in Week 11, but we needed a 10th candidate and he’s had a strong overall season for a team that has won 10 straight games.

Couldn't even find another RB or defensive player or a WR to fill out his top 10.
