The Saints were doomed by the big play last night.

1. Deep shot down the middle...
2. Interception return inside the 5.
3. Blown coverage for 65 yard TD.
4. 40 yard jump ball for potential GW FG.
Not making them earning it with drives almost cost us the "L"
As I sit here I still do not know how we won.

Take the roughing the kicker and the pick to the 1 yard line out of the game and it’s 34-13 Saints... the big play by Williams was bound to happen, the defense was light years better last night compare to the first 4 weeks. Really need to get Janoris back move CGJ to safety and bench MAlcolm X...

It was utterly stupid of Allen to blitz on a 3rd & 1 where a chunk gain through the air puts the Chargers in FG range.

I know you meant big play in general, but it just got me thinking that as bad as the D was, they really only gave up 20 points. I didn't realize that for some reason.

This is a different chargers team they upgraded every where They are good

That was just a great throw and catch. Williams would’ve bodied any DB in the league on that play

Williams is a monster. Even my 14 year old daughter, after the replay asked me how can he jump so high?
With that said, it was still dumb for Allen to blitz there with that down & distance as well as the in the game situation itself.
One, it's stupid to blitz on 3rd & 1 at any point in the game unless it's a run blitz with the offense lined up tight.
Secondly, don't put your corners at risk there of giving up the big pass play in that situation when the Chargers desperately needed a chunk play through the air. If the blitz doesn't get to the QB in time or the offense picks it up, you increase the chances of letting the offense get that big chunk play. The gamble at that point in time isn't worth it.

It's going to be fun watching the Chiefs & Chargers go at it the next few years especially if Herbert continues build & develop.
