“Someone came up to me in the locker room and acknowledged that a mistake was made, that 10 seconds should not have run off but they should’ve had 31 seconds left. Instead we only had 16. So, listen, that can’t happen. I mean, that’s a game changer, right? We had to kick a 58-yard field goal or whatever it was. … If we had 15 more seconds, are you kidding me? We’re going to get closer. That’s a game changer. That can’t happen.”

I’m sorry but the NFL needs to set some kind of precedent for errors like this. Refs should be subject to fines or suspensions when they fail to do their jobs correctly.

It was a huge mistake and the announcers and official that ESPN hired didn’t even acknowledge it in real time.

You’d think all the yelling and complaining at least would’ve made them take a second look.

It was.a massive difference

You people still don’t get it. The NFL classifies its business organization as “sports entertainment” for a reason.

“Negligence”....haha

A grading system done by the coaches should be used. Bottom 5% get axed.

It was such a bad call because if you think about it from a logical standpoint, why the frick would the saints lose an extra 10 seconds from the time the officials decide to call for a review. It makes zero fricking sense from even a common sense standpoint and those zebras should be ashamed.

It’s still bullshite that a the refs blow a call and you automatically lose 10 second or have to burn a time out. The saints were lined up and snapped the ball under 10 seconds.

They didn't even call for a run off until the Texans said something about. And then when Brees and Payton told them the clock needed to be corrected they blow them off and announce the clock is right. Didn't give a damn to listen to a Saint that he might be wrong but jumped all over the Texans' complaint

the runoff is correct, it just shoulda been from about 40 seconds. if they stop the clock for a review when it's a running clock situation they run off the ten seconds
the problem was, they didn't stop the clock for the review for 15 seconds, at the 26 second mark

No we didn’t. 41 seconds to 26 seconds isn’t 10 seconds

Assuming it was 'real', what would you classifying as?

I was fricking pissed about the 10 sec runoff.

Let’s fricking logically discuss this.

The ref made a bad call/spot. The Saints run a 4th down play, and presumably would spike it.

Then it gets reviewed. The spot was wrong, and the Saints are given the correct call of a first down.

Why wouldn’t the clock go back to that play, and it starts back on the whistle?

That seems logical.

INSTEAD, the Saints are charged with a 10
Sec runoff????

You gotta be fricking kidding me. So the recap.....

The refs fricked the spot by a yard, reviewed it, overturned the frick up, gave the Saints the first down, didn’t put time back on the clock, and PENALIZED the Saints 10 seconds.

Really? How does that even make sense.

God fricking shite

Last season, the league fired a ref in a meaningless mid-season game for missing a blatant false start. Know what happened to the ref and crew responsible for the worst no-call in NFL history? Nothing. If you are looking for accountability, fairness, or consistency, don't look at the NFL.

The worst part to me was to follow that up with a pretty ticky tack roughing the kicker penalty on the XP.

After the refs acknowledged and owned their 1st half mistake, they needed to talk with each other and say "look, we are not going to decide this game tonight against New Orleans on a bad call late in the game. Not tonight."

Instead they call that stupid penalty (which against all odds helped us win instead of play it safe and settle for OT).

this post is very true. it's all about entertainment for the NFL.

being a legit sports league is secondary to them. they rig games all the time in the name of entertainment.

gotta keep those huge television contract dollars coming in. after all, they are competing with the likes of The Bachelor, Big Brother, Survivor, etc., etc.

I’m all for the BS that was the runoff, but you can’t land on the kicker’s plant leg. That’s a bright line rule violation. CJG fudged up. Glad it worked out.

This could have determined the game. We make that Fg then at the end of the game we are up 30-21 instead of 27-21. Game over. No late game heroics needed.

I’m just so sick of some of these games being having such hugely impacted plays made by referees. Maybe if it happens to New England or Green Bay or Dallas something will be actually done to help erase the errors they make. Not all of them can be corrected but I think damn near most of them can be negated so that way there’s none of this in the future
