re: The Hopkins suplex flag was ticky tack
I wrestled. I have done it and had the same slam done to me numerous times. We called is a "belly to back slam (cue the gaaay) and it sucks to have it hit on you becuase, if you dont tuck your chin and or roll to a shoulder on impact, it can really jack up your head/neck, particularly when wearing a helmet. When you bring a guy over the top of your head, you know exactly what you are doing and what is going to happen. However, you can also rotate the guy as you are lifting to avoid the "over the top" motion.

Again though, as soon as a player is lifted off the ground, the play is dead because their forward progress is stopped. It is a penalty every time and a severe safety issue not to call it.

He had him from behind, around the waist. Williams was trying to advance. Looked like he pulled him backwards the best he could.

I'm doing my best to not say you're clueless, but...

This was a very clear penalty.

I am a Saints fan. I saw a man with his hands around another players waist, one hand actually around his arm trying to strip the football and the guy just so happened to fly in the air while doing so. I didn't like the flag and the sideline acting like Hopkins was trying to injure Williams

Ok you are either a troll or an idiot. The guy "happened to fly through the air" because Hopkins lifted and back arched him over his head. A guy doesn't just "happen to fly through the air." It was an intentional slam.

Saints Talk is becoming crowded with imbeciles.

go watch the slow mo in the link I posted. He clearly has his hand around the arm of Williams, the one holding the ball. He's trying to strip the ball.

I don't think it should be a flag, but it was thrown correctly according to the rule.

you can clearly see he actually frees one of his arms before he hits the ground.

You can also clearly see he blatantly broke the rules and was correctly penalized.

The roughing the kicker call was ticky tack. This call was obvious and would be called 100 times out of 100.

i can live with that. Just sucks because the guy was trying to strip the ball. I'd be pissed if the Saints were flagged for it too.

SO you want the refs not enforcing rules? Because that how you get the Rams in the Superbowl last year.

Correlation =\= causation

Dude is a WR who doesn't know how to tackle so he ends up suplexing him.

I don't think he meant to do it that hard or did it with any malicious intent, but he wasn't trying to strip the ball.

I tend to agree, it wasn't egregious, but you can't even risk that there. Too many successful flops happen.

If this was 1969 then the slam would have been nothing more than another NFL tackle. Fifty years later it's a penalty.

Fans have to decide if that's good or not.

Looked to me like he stopped him from any further forward progress the best he could with the hold he had in him

best he could =/= within the rules of the game.

You twist and spin them down or pull them down to the side. YOU don't just body slam a guy.

100% unnecessary roughness.
