was terrible. Ignoring Williams attempt at a tackle. (Even if he makes it, Diggs might be pushed out of bounds and they get a field goal opportunity). Why have 2 linebackers in the middle of the field? Why have anyone at that level anyway? They need 20 yards and the out of bounds marker. Why have safeties anywhere near the middle of the field? The middle should have been wide open with 3 levels of defenders at a minimum of 15 yards down the field. Dennis Allen is an idiot. Rob Ryan may not have had great defenses, but he was pretty solid in those specific situations the few times I saw him set it up for the Saints. He always had the sidelines guarded before half when the offense had no timeouts with less than 20 seconds left. If anything, Williams should have been on the outside of that WR.

And yet, had Williams simply done his job (which he did not), the Saints would be one game away from the Super Bowl.

The pass is going to the outside receivers with 10 seconds on the clock with no time outs moron.

I think my posts agrees with that logic bro. Thus, the defensive alignment was pretty fricking stupid and lazy.

I'm the only one in my Groupme that thinks Diggs would have ended up out of bounds after the catch. I'm not sure that once he caught the ball that close to the sidelines he could have been tackled in bounds. Am I the only one thinking that?

Depends on the type of tackle. The low hit the way he is going for it, probably keeps him in bounds. But a typical tackle from that position probably pushes that guy out.

Piss poor coaching. Force the pass to the middle by covering the sidelines.

Why is 26 lined up 1 yard off the ball and doesn’t carry anyone deep?

You’re protecting against the 5 yard boundary out route with 10 seconds left? Why? Who cares if Minnesota catches a 5 yard out and turns up field for 5 more.

Probably could have used an extra deep safety ... just my observation. M

*Sorry for not knowing 26’s name; not a saints fan.

The defense was awful on the last play, the Vikings were about to win regardless

I honestly don't know what we ran. Look at this still picture with the ball in air

Crawley is guarding 2 Vikings receivers, while we have two saints players doing nothing in the middle of the field. Williams had to close a ton of distance to basically make a play on a wide open man. I really would like to here what our coverage was

Exactly, but allen is above blame here. The defense was terrible on that play

He shouldnt be above blame here. That was a fricking awful defensive call. Willaims may not frick up if he is put in a better postion/we had someone underneath diggs

The thread is stupid bcause the defensive alignment wasn't the fricking problem. It was a Saint player being in position and failing to do his job. So yeah, it IS about that.

Huge problem with the defensive alignment. And that's after a TOv that we took. Why did we have 2 Lbs on the field?

Defensive alignment IS to blame on this play -- to protect against what happened. Should be covering deeper sidelines and deep -- not the middle of the field. Prolly should only have rushed 3. Let QB take all 10 seconds back there in the pocket.

The simple fact of the matter is that the Saints had a player in position to make the play. It's not the coaches fault the player failed to make a basic tackle.

Players make mistakes. You back them up (especially at the end of the game) to make sure it doesn't cost you. Victory formation?

Well, since you know more than CSP and the defensive coaching staff, why don't you request an interview with Tom Benson? I'm sure you'll be able to convince him of their deficiencies and he'll let you take over the job.
