I know that CSP loves the guy and know they have given him the placeholding duties to further solidify his spot on the field and the 53 man roster.

I have trouble seeing him as the QB of the future. Maybe he is a future backup (jury is still out on that).

My statement is this. This has the chance to be the deepest and most talented roster in Saints history. Maybe for the first time ever I do not seeing a glaring position of need. With that being said there is a real good chance that we are going to be putting several good players on the street. Several players that can and would make a contribution on this team.

With a 53 man roster and a 45 man game day roster How can we justify keeping Hill when you are going to cut a talented LBer or DL player to keep him?

Backup QB with very talented running skills
Well liked in locker room
Field goal holder (opens up ton of options with fakes)
Special Teams contributor who can block or tackle about as good as any defender with great speed and huge lunch pail.

Yup all that.

He's not the QB of the future but he can contribute in a variety of ways.

He’s not taking a roster spot from a defender who will actually play on the defense.

He’s taking a special teams spot...added bonus that he plays QB.

ETA: can’t wait for the inevitable fake FG with him as holder!

You can't, but we aren't doing that. We carry 2 back up QBs anyway. With hill you get a 3rd string guy who also can be a STer and save a roster spot.

The last 10-15 players will make this team based on ST play. The more a player does, the more valuable that he is. Hill nearly blocked a punt. As a holder on FG/XP, you now have a legit Run/Pass fake option for a defense to have to honor. We have seen him make plays as a gunner on punt team. He could also be quite valuable as an upback. Where this team will take the next step to a Super Bowl Championship is elite Special Teams play.

Give me players like Hill, Scott, Hardee, and Banjo to help us get there.

He's a ST hero.

At this point, he seems to deserve his roster spot more than Savage.

Which means we have to carry 3 qb's in case Hill gets hurt on special teams.

Dude is 28. He’ll be 32 by time Brees retires. He’s not the future.

Vikings just signed Kirk Cousins for their franchise, he makes 30 in a few weeks.

You really comparing Kirk Cousins to Tayson Hill? Cousins has been a proven starter. Tayson at 32 will lucky to still be in the league.

It's pretty obvious that he's saying age is not a defining measure of "future". The future is usually pretty short-term in the NFL.

THIS!

If the holder is a QB with decent accuracy who can run a legit 4.4 and has the size to run over a DB, you have to account for the edge. This means one less person trying to block a FG. It pays off in a multitude of ways.

The dude is a true blue football player, a tough son of a bitch, he contributes in a variety of ways on the field, and you'll never see him get into trouble off the field. You want to cut a player like that?

As a STer, if Hill could punt too that would def get Chad's thumbs up.

Give him 4 weeks of practice and he'd be punting 42 yarders in no time.

You are correct that he is not the future , but it is not about age he is just not that good at QB.
