For what it’s worth, I’ve never been on the ‘OMG IM BOYCOTTING THIS TEAM’ bullshite.. I’ve tried my best to keep politics out of football despite the never ending onslaught of political bullshite... my mindset was that despite my disagreement with the current narrative being pushed by the league, I wasn’t going to let that ruin my love for football

Truth be told, ever since the NFCCG against the rams, it’s just felt ‘different’, and I can’t really explain why. Maybe it’s because I’m in my mid 30s with a family to protect and provide for, but I never imagined I’d have this level of apathy for the Saints.. when the game ended tonight, I didn’t care about the playoffs, I didn’t really care about winning the super bowl.. I just felt horrible for Drew on a personal level

Honestly, I don’t know why I wrote this post.. I’m sure I’ll get hit with 5-6 TLDRs, but I just wanted to get this off my chest... does anyone else feel the same way?

FWIW, i 100% plan on watching next year, I’m just hoping to find that ‘spark’ again..

I think we are starting to realize this era is coming to end. And there is nothing we can do about it.

Saints Always play good in regular season but choke in playoffs. I think we as fans are coming to accept that.

It could easily be changed. Just needs time.

I never got caught up in the politics. The NFL was sorta losing me over time due to way too many flags, players crying on every play that a flag wasn't thrown, moronic "look at me" gestures every time someone gets a first down or breaks up a pass and Goodell's complete incompetence. Also for some reason, few or no fans at football games this year really took away from the experience more than any other sport. I can't say why, it just did.

I mean, once you have a kids and family I think priorities shift and you realize that in the grand scheme of things football and sports in general are not as important as you thought they were. The loss to the Rams was a gut punch for sure, along with the Minneapolis miracle and even last year. However, my hope is that as my kids get older it will be important to them at some point, which may generate more interest for me as well. This year just sucked, with Covid and the political b.s. and everything as it is. Sports are supposed to create unity-not reinforce hatred and division. Unfortunately there cannot be anything untouched and unspoiled by the political nonsense going on now.

With all due respect, how I feel about the team has nothing to do with what you posted..

Pre-NFCCG, I was diehard who dat no matter what... that one play completely changed my outlook on the whole league

So while what you said might be correct, it has nothing to do with the OP

I’m just tired of terrible offense in a league that wins on offense.

It will be rough until we find another young franchise QB.

That’s a very good point that maybe I’ve overlooked in the grand scheme of things

With all due respect, keep things in perspective.. we were top five for so long, let’s not like like these past few years have been that bad

I can remember as a young child upset to tears when the Saints and LSU lost big games and I was a young child in the late 80’s and early 90’s so outside of a few years it wasn’t great as you can imagine lol. But, the thing that was important about then was the memories that I had with my grandfather watching the games and even listening to them on the radio. My grandfather lived to see LSU win it all in 2003 but didn’t live to see the Saints win the super bowl. He was a fan since the very beginning and I just try to think about what he would say now if he had witnessed the Saints during the Brees era. So, I guess for me, the reason it meant a lot for me wasn’t as much about the sport or the outcomes but the memories I had cheering the teams on with my grandfather. I hope to share that with my kids and grandchildren one day.

What happened tonight was unfortunately exactly what I expected. It’s disappointing.

But like you it’s just been different since the Rams loss. Don’t think it will ever get back to how it was before at least for me.

Yup. After that I feel a lot less invested. That game helped me get a little perspective. I’m still a Saints fan all the way, but when they lose in the playoffs, I’m over it. As for Brees, he’s an all time great Saint in my book but it was past time to move on. Father Time is unbeaten.

I'm sad because this is a legend retiring that has been the quarterback for my team since the 7th grade, more than half my life. He's always been there. Tough to see the Era end, and realize one of the last pieces from your childhood is gone too.

I second this. It’s surreal to see the guys you grew up on all leaving. Guys like Peyton, Eli, Favre, Kurt Warner, hell maybe throw Romo in there, are already gone. Then this year you have Brees, Big Ben and possibly Rivers all retiring. Brady, Rodgers and maybe Fitzpatrick of all people, will be the last of the Old Guard.

Bottom line is that it sucks that Drew is retiring. He was the face of the Saints for the last 15 years. He brought us to levels we would never have dreamed of pre-2006.

But another reality is that we could see the decline in him over a period of a few years. The younger version of Drew isn’t losing the game tonight.

We will never replace him, but I also kind of look forward to the new guy being able to regularly hit those deep passes and scramble at times as well.

The Saints have been a solid and consistent team for so long it’s almost easy to forget how hard it is to maintain that, but the offense the last few years has been so “below the rim” they became almost boring to watch (other than AK41 highlights).

Sports in general have taken an interest hit this year due to COVID, in terms of casual fandom and it’s place in the pecking order of importance in life.

A new era and a full stadium should help reclaim some of that enthusiasm....

We are the Houston Oilers of the modern NFL.

Fact is the 2018 was stolen from us and that was the end of Brees being "Brees". He's been really good for us the last 2 years but he just can't accurately throw the ball downfield anymore. He's having to push the ball more, which makes him less accurate (which was the best facet of his game).

The 2020 season was just his swan song.
