Great hire IMO

Someone that has been with the organization for a while and that has knowledge of it in and out.

Doing Saints play by play and owning Port Orleans. Safe to say his retirement so far is going well.

When LSU hired Blair, there was a lot of grief about how he was an outsider, how can he ever have the hometown passion and insight as Hawthorne did, etc. Blair took a year or two, but he's showing plenty of passion now, and he has years of experience to draw upon. Blair is a smooth professional announcer.

WWL/Saints did the complete opposite, they hired a guy with no experience but plenty of hometown passion and insight. Yes, he's smart. But he's not polished at all. We don't know how this is going to go, and I'm not at all surprised if given how well Zach has done for himself with his investments, if WWL got him for pennies.

I wish him all the best and will be happy to be proven wrong. But at this point, I don't like the hire.

Did he really get picked over more experienced candidates?

He probably won’t be great for the first couple of years which sucks because they will be super bowl years. I wanted Joel Myers but he is pretty old already and he will get to stay wit the pels

You can't have less experience but besides Sean Kelley and Joel Meyers none of the more experienced local candidates should've moved the needle.

Supposedly the finalists included the two Pels announcers, who have tons of experience, and Mike Hoss, who doesn't have play by play experience but does have decades of media experience.

Thought Sean Kelly would have been the choice. Already works for the team and has experience calling radio for several sports.

Have you heard him on the radio at all? He’s already the best on air talent at WWL

Other candidates were turned down due to "lack of experience" and I mean qualified canadiates.

That's all I will say...

That’s not saying much the talent on WWL sucks

Prepare for the bitch fest from other radio hosts

While I agree that it is not the same...but it's wrong to say he isn't polished. He is a natural on the radio. People make PBP out to be quantum physics.

There's still an art to it. It drives me nuts when I can hear the crowd going crazy and the PBP is still explaining the QB dropped back. Kind of Hawthorne's MO towards the end.

Yea, for sure. I agree there is an art to it. But you learn the nuances & technicalities then your personality takes care of the rest. The foundation is actually sounding like you belong on air, and i think Zach qualifies for that
