I know it doesn't make a difference now, just thought it was a weird move...

It didn't make sense to me, either. Should have tried to score a TD with 4th and goal from the 5 yard line. If they didn't make it the Rams would have been backed up near their goal line. kicking the field goal left the Saints still needing 2 scores to win. I think Peyton didn't think his defense could stop the Rams.
