Is this definitely happening?
benson bought WVUE (fox tv) and now has the ability to branch out to radio etc
when the saints contract is up with WWL it is kinda a no brainer that he will want to broadcast the games of his team on his own network
LINK
Benson later said the company also might seek to buy other local broadcast properties, such as radio stations, as well as produce feature films.
"Our plans aren't to just stop here," he said. "We're planning to get into other media. Our plans are just developing. We're going to be in the movie business.
"This will all be part of this. We're in an infant stage."

That's good. Hopefully the branching out into radio will start soon. Like you said, it's really the only way to force WWL to wake up. The thing is,most New Orleanians tend to be pretty set in their ways. I think you could put 3 chimps on the air on channel 4 news and they would still easily beat the ratings of the other newscasts(simply because ch 4 is what people have always watched for news)......That said, if the Saints games themselves are broadcast on another station people would have to pay attention.

Which they have been - it's not like they've been on WWL forever.

They were on WGSO at one point I believe. But that was a VERY long time ago. I know Jim Henderson has been doing the games since at least 1983 or 1984 and it's been WWL that entire time.... And WGSO has gone the way of the dinosaurs.

And LSU football...

Aslong as Deke is no where near I will be fine with whatever Benson does with the radio situation, I despise that man so much. (deke that is)

he response to Deke and Bobby has been overwhelmingly positive with listeners and advertisers alike.
Complete bullshite. Deke is a idiot and Bobby sounds like hes had a stroke....or 7. WWL is on a downward spiral. They lost the rights to Rush Limbaughs show and replaced it with a shitty local guy. Then, if i'm not mistaken, they lost the rights to "Coast to Coast AM". Hopefully one day a real sports station will buy out WWL and take it over. Who the hell wants to hear the backwards and ignorant viewpoints of the local announcers and inbred POS callers who call in.

There have been many rumors concerning his departure, and I have no idea which one is correct. But him being gone is the only bright spot related to WWL.

You need only spend time living elsewhere to realize how abysmal sports talk in New Orleans is - and for the most part, has always been. WWL has long been a sorry waste of 50,000 watts in that aspect.
When he was on 1280, Gerry V was far better than anything that WWL was offering.
I don't know if they're still on but years ago during football season, 990 AM had a Saturday morning show with Archie Manning, Ed Daniels and Kenny Trahan that was pretty good.
As far as New Orleans teams not getting national airtime, that's mostly true but during their respective playoff runs, both the Saints and Hornets got a lot of talk out here in Vegas. LSU also, during last year's NC season.
The one person I really miss hearing is Jim Henderson. It's hard to believe that 30 years have passed since he arrived on the New Orleans scene.

When Saints season is coming and ongoing, bring in Bobby and Hokie to break it down but fire Deke and send him back shrimping or frogging....whereever they found him.
Nothing will happen unless you complain to the SPONSORS/ADVERTISERS. You've got to hit WWL in the pocketbook, where it counts. WWL management could care less what we all think about the on-air talent. If you do something that starts effecting their bottom line, then maybe they'll listen.........

nah, not really
for this issue, as long as wwl keeps having the amount of listeners they do people will continue to advertise there
this will change when their ratings go down

so could the advertisers
hoakie and kaarejohnson can host a 17 hour show a day on "how to talk like you've taken too many hits in the head" and "my dad...the secret behind my success" but as long as that many people will listen in their "target audience"...it won't matter

quote:They talk for 30 seconds and then have 15 minutes worth of commercials. No wonder the advertisers "love them". Hokie is good and Bobby is ok, but that Deke dude is a moron.
Even ignoring the quality of the hosts, the show has too many commercials and most of the callers are morons.

Yeah, WWL needs to get some fresh blood on the air.
Bobby's o.k., Chapese's o.k., and I can even take Deke in small doses (when he's talking about high school football), but they need someone with stronger communicating skills to run the show, to ask the questions that the sports guys can answer.
That's what makes Mike and Mike in the Morning so successful, IMO. Greenie is a good journalist with good insight to ask the right questions. They surround him with sports jocks, and schedule frequent short interviews of other sports guys to provide "expert analysis."
