Sports Talk on WWL = sucks

Big Chief Deke = blows

WWL Sports Talk + Deke = swallows

Damn, whatever happened to callers like Sid from Jefferson? Though crazy as a sack of snakes, he brought a rather unique brand of comedy to the Buddy D era. And it was tough to get any more unique than the host Buddy D. The funny thing about Sid was he always seemed to talk to Buddy as if he were schoolin' him on all that was wrong with the Saints (and there was plenty wrong with them most of the time).

People like you are why New Orleans sucks as a sports market. We have an NBA team that was IN THE PLAYOFFS and you'd rather them be talking about the Saints? Sheesh.

First of all I like the Hornets, like hearing discussions about the Hornets. I don't like hearing Bobby Hebert and DEKE talk about the Hornets. DEKE knows nothing about nothing except that he speaks with a stupid cajun LISP and sucks.

Bobby H. is a Saints guy. If you want to hear Hornet's talk there are 75 ESPN radio stations that talk nothing but NBA year friggin' round.

People in NO that listen to 870 want to hear the Saints discussed. 870 doesn't even broadcast the Hornet's games. Listen to the Hornet's discussed on the other 75 sports stations.

If you want to hear DEKE breakdown the Hornet's lineup or NASCAR, of which he knows not a damned thing about, for 4 hours so be it. But you and Mike from Plaquemine are the only friggin listeners.

which is why they need better hosts to discuss those topics

and he should talk about the saints

so are you saying ESPN discusses basketball more than football?

quote:

People in NO that listen to 870 want to hear the Saints discussed

thats not totally true

some fans want to hear saints talk all the time, and those fans are ignorant in sports radio knowledge. all they know is local sports radio and wouldn't know a good show if it was hosted in their kitchen.

their idea of good radio is saints talk 24/7 and that is pathetic

quote:

that's just plain stupid

NFL is discussed more on national radio than the NBA is and it isn't even close

nobody wants to hear deke talk about nascar....i wouldn't mind a show hearing ronswaboda discuss baseball (ex) or archie manning discusing football again (990) (again, ex)

the same regurgitated crap over and over makes for terrible terrible radio

Without Saints talk on 870 the past 30 years there is no sports talk radio in NO....bottom line.

OK, then 870 needs to get different hosts to talk about stuff.

But first of all, I don't want to hear DEKE talk about anything.....the Saints, Hornets, money, NOTHING. That guy has got to go. Sounds like they went to the Gulf and got the first guy off a shrimp boat and made him lead sports guy on the biggest radio station in the south.

Until they get someone knowledgeable to discuss other sports, I'm not listening until it gets to Saints season and even then, I onlyw ant to hear Bobby and Hokie talk. DEKE can go back to shrimping.

Oh, and when the NBA season is ongoing, ESPN radio turns into NBA radio. That's all they do. So during the NBA season, if you want to hear NBA talk, go to ESPN radio. Every hour Steven A. Smith breaks it down for you....have fun with that crap.

I agree.

If I want to hear national news, ill tune in to ESPN radio.

Saints dominate New Orleans. The Saints should be talked about 80% of the time when the season is going on.

National news and sports talk pretty much ignores New Orleans sports, and since that is the case, i dont care if WWL shoves the Saints down my throat.

and besides, they always throw in LSU and some Hornets talk, and that is really all I need.

Id bet that radio stations in most major cities that have NFL teams talk predominantly about their teams during the season. I dont know where this guy gets his ideas from.

no it doesn't

if you really think that when october and november rolls around that ESPN radio turns into NBA radio you are 100% flat out WRONG!

stick to WWL..you're better off there

Sure it does. I live in BR, listen to ESPN radio all day before OTT comes on in the afternoon and Steven A. Smith or Jalen Rose is on every hour of the day discussing the NBA during the season. Maybe you like to hear a guy sound like a rapper break down the lineup for the 76ers, but I don't.

But if I wanted to hear NBA talk, I damn sure don't want to hear Deke and Bobby break it down.

Here's what WWL needs to do: If they want to start discussing the Hornet's during the season (which they do half-arse now because they don't broadcast the Hornet's games so it's like a big advertisement for the competing Hornet's radio station) then hire a couple of guys who know the stuff and shitcan Bobby and Deke during the NBA season.

When Saints season is coming and ongoing, bring in Bobby and Hokie to break it down but fire Deke and send him back shrimping or frogging....whereever they found him.

That's what I'm talking about. Saints, some LSU and Hornets, sure. But 80% Saints.

Oh,and fire Deke. To be honest, he's the reason I have quit listening at all. I can take Bobby breaking down the Hornets and him confusing the positions of Morris Peterson and Chandler. It's Deke I can't can't take.

the problem with that is from 4-7 there is no national talk radio on in NO....tom fitxmorris is the only other option.

wwl only wants 1 sports show in that time slot....theirs. smart on their part, but it hurts the consumer

steven smith was on the radio for like 2 hours, and he was only on in NO for a couple of months anyway

the steven smith show is nowehere CLOSE to being indicative of the entire ESPN radio lineup

mike & mike, cowherd, tirico & dan patrick before him) all talked PLENTY of college and pro football in october, november and decemer

saying ESPn radio turned into NBA radio in october is silly. the fact that you won't realize that is astouding

i agree totally

i'd rather never hear deke except for friday nights talking prep sports and bobby for maybe an hour a day talking saints

then hire a couple of guys who know the stuff and shitcan Bobby and Deke during the NBA season.

why are you so obsessed with having to talk 1 sport or the other? all sports can be discussed at the appropriate time with the main emphasis being on the saints

alot of the people in this city think 4-7 mon-fri of sports talk is sports radio and it isn't

it is bad enough the amound of news and ads they squeeze into that 3 hour span but it wouldn't be so bad if they actually had more shows on...whether on other stations or other times

gus katengel is one of the most deserving, most educated in the field (broadcasting), and knowledgeable host on their staff (IMO)...and he actually has covered teams previously...unlike deke

BUT, deke is loved by a certain demographic in this city and WWL knows it...and so does deke

IMO, i would prefer if wwl was to remain news all day and move sports talk to wwwl and add another local show from 7-10 after bobby and whoever

like i said earlier, i think things will get real interesting when benson does acquire a radio station and the rights to broadcast his own games...that will be the first time wwl has a true competitor in the local sports market and hopefully we all benefit

Because dude unless you have 22 people sitting in the studio, you can't talk intelligently about everything in sports. Their lineup is Deke and Bobby and those 2 should never talk Hornets. Do you get what I'm saying? Who else do they have to talk other sports? No one. Then hire someone.

Oh, and fire Deke.

Look, speaking isn't the most important thing. Buddy D, we all know his problems but that was his schtick ya know? We all knew this but he had Kenny W there as the guy with the "inside" knowledge and information to fill in the gaps. Kenny was all over Saints news.

Now they have the same kind of thing with the retard Deke, but no Kenny to fill in the gaps with information. It's just Bobby who is the same kind of color guy as Hokie.

So in other words, you have 2 guys sitting there with no information at all about anything just BS'ing. It really sucks. No insight, no arguments....no nothing. Two guys from the swamp talking broken english.

thats kinda the point of the thread...the host(s) sucks

i really don't think it is a better option to have the shitty hosts talk about what they know rather than hiring good hosts who can talk about more than just 1 thing....no reason you still can't have deke talk prep sports on friday nights, and bobby for an hour a day or something....but every day....for 3 hours, as the lone sports talk outlet in the city SUCKS

You seem to know than I do about the lineup. I had never even heard of Deke until Katrina and he did a lot of hurricane radio stuff. Next thing I know, Kenny's gone and Deke's the friggin' main guy. He mainly did high school footabll stuff before this? High school football is right up his alley in my opinion. Deke makes Lynn Rollins look like Al Michaels.

WWL can't believe this guy is the long term answer to losing Kenny who at least brought info to the table.

Is this definitely happening? I heard something about it on here a while back, but, well, I don't always take everything I read here to the bank. And if it really is in the works when can we expect it?
