Loomis said in his interview they tried to trade up early in the second for a specific player. He then later says he wasn’t able to do a deal with Terry Fontenot.
Loomis day 2 recap

Guarantee they were trying to jump the Lions to select Levi Onwuzurike

One of those where you are going to have to seriously pay up to make a division rival trade their pick.

Was pretty surprised Dallas and Philly did business. I guess times are changing.

He should have traded back out of the first, adding an additional pick, still add Turner and potentially have enough to get Levi.

I was very surprised they didn’t take a DT in the first 4 rounds. Levi was twice the player Barmore was on tape, Dan Campbell got a good one he will start day 1. I was surprised that the Iowa DT Nixon fell so far. He was figured as a 2nd rounder and he fell to the later rounds.

this was a terrible draft to need a DT overall

I’m glad we didn’t blow our wad to draft a DT. Roach, Tuttle are guys we found in UDFA that have been just fine. I think we also found another solid guy that we flipped for a draft pick bc we had so much depth. DT’s are a dime a dozen unless you are talking about Donald or Cox.

Also, we have Onyemata so it’s not like we are hurting that badly there. We lost Brown, which hurts to an extent, but other guys can step up and improve. Rankins was arguably our 5th or 6th best DT. Understandably, he was never the same after the achilles injury

If they felt he was a difference maker, they should have done the deal. Apparently they did not feel this way.

I think they both did it to screw over the Giants, who are also in their division. Judge even mentioned “the enemy of my enemy is my friend. Not likely that they make that move otherwise IMO

Would have loved to get Onwuzurike. D line depth is crucial. And we lost a nice bit this past offseason.

Yall get so consumed with need over BPA. If the saints loved him, and he was good, it would be a fine pick and they would find a spot for him

No it was not. We didn’t see any DTs come off the board until the second round which was Barmore and Levi which were the only ones in consideration for late 1st round picks. Had a few more in the 3rd then some sprinkled through day 3. It was a very weak interior dline class

How much would this board have melted if we traded all the way back up to the top and drafted a DT instead of a LB or CB? It would have been a great pick, but would have been worth it for the whining on this board.

Heard on the radio that turner wouldn’t have gotten past 30, and if he did, he definitely wasn’t getting past 33.

Yeah, the more that comes out, the more it sounds like Turner wasn’t a reach at all.

With a pick pretty close to end, why didn’t they take Marvin Wilson?

I think they will for sure bring in another vet.
