“(BYU left tackle Brady Christensen) was probably going to be the guy at 59, and there was a deal cooking that could have moved them back on the clock within a few spots to take LSU wide receiver Terrace Marshall Jr.. Marshall was quickly becoming one of those guys whose name was beginning to stick out on the board, with not much space above him, but a lot of space below at his position. He was becoming a value guy. Then someone got a call that the Saints were about to take Marshall 60th overall, and the Panthers shifted gears, taking Marshall in the 59th spot instead.”

Assuming this is true why does this seem to happen to y’all every year?

We don't draft LSU players. Sean made the call so the Panthers wouldn't strengthen that line of theirs. They bit the bait and got a WR instead.

Classic Payton.

by the panthers?

how was he the guy if they were trying to move down for Marshall.

Makes no sense.

If the NFL wants to lick the Saints nuts every draft year, by all means go for it.

My guess is Brady still has a few connections with the Saints that were feeding him info.

It's crazy how this happens every single year though.

Well true that really sucks because I was hoping he would get to us at 60 until I saw Carolina at 59 and knew there was no way Joe Brady would let him get past.

Last time this occurred, we landed Ryan ramczyk.

I'm okay with it if the results are the same

Nobody's going to waste a 2nd rounder just to cockblock another team.

They wanted Marshall and it's not that hard to figure out the Saints might be interested, so you move up and make sure you get him while you can.

Turner had a better chance of being available at 59 than Marshall... so this makes no sense

or within the Tigers. Saints could have contacted him or his agent as their pick got closer and someone leaked that to Brady.

This report comes from Panthers.com’s Darin Gantt,

That should tell you if true story. He is probably just saying that to make the Panthers fans feel good about the pick, especially after the last 4 years of Saints winning the division.

Think about it, how would you feel if Saints reporter said we took a player in the Draft that the Failcons really wanted.

Especially after Payton gloated about taking Stevens from the Panthers last year.

Panthers lost Curtis Samuel, Robby Anderson is in his final year of his deal, and all they got otherwise is DJ Moore. It’s no shocker they took the best WR on the board who had a 1st rd grade, a guy who Joe Brady coached and knows well

Oh well. We got Pete The Punisher instead.

We really do need receiver help though. I would have loved the pick all homerism aside. We have by far the worst receiving corps in the division.

Joe Brady was not about to let Terrance Marshall get past that spot regardless of what the Saints were going to do.

That's when you try and move up a few spots for a guy with a truefirst round grade.

I do like werner though. Linebacker was more of a need anyway.
I still think wide receiver is super thin so hopefully they hit on a veteran reclamation project.

Dede westbrook is floating around out there.

This explains why Marshall didn’t look that happy when he got drafted. He probably wanted to go to the Saints. Reconnecting with Brady is a consolation prize I suppose.
