So what was the method to the Taysom Hill madness last night?
Payton tried it a lot last night, more than usual. It was completely ineffective except for the admittedly great TD play.

He even called it in OT, while Drew had lead a brilliant drive, on 2nd and 9. A call that didn't seem to make much sense at the time.

Is he preparing Hill more for pressure situations? Setting something up for later in the year? I'd like to know the method to the madness on this.

He tried the pass they’ve been setting up all year but Taysom is too indecisive and afraid to take a shot.

Any Saints fan with half a brain can see it's a big set up for the winning play in OT in this years Superbowl.

If the pass wasn't there then Taysom made the right call.

I did not understand installing him on 2nd and 9, after Brees just lead a brilliant drive, in Overtime, near the redzone. It made no sense at all.

Is it really that much different than a Kamara or Murray run up the middle? Which usually get 3-4 yards?

If your issue is a run play on second and long then I agree with you. I hate that call. Analytics hates that call. Zac Taylor fricks burrow over all the time on those calls for cincy.

But if you would’ve been fine with a run up the middle with Murray I dont see a huge difference with a run with Taysom.

Because you essentially are taking the pass option away, or the real threat of it. I know they tried to pass earlier with him but 98% of the time its a run and everyone knows it.

With Brees in you can go play action, straight pass downfield, screen, run, etc.

Obviously you “can” do all of those things with Brees. My question is would the board have had a huge issue if on that second and nine we run it with Murray for 3 yards.

Again I agree on hating conservative run calls on second long. Just like the handoff to Kamara in second and 15 before the bomb to Cook. I just don’t see the difference between a Taysom wildcat run and a Kamara/Murray run. That’s just my two cents though.

It’s overall certainly frustrating that the Taysom packages aren’t as effective so far this year

My biggest issue with taysom is Sean Payton. I think he's having one of his worst starts to a season play calling, and part of that is bringing in Taysom on downs he never did before.

My biggest issue is taking him out after Brees makes a great throw or two in a row. Taysom is best used in short yardage situations, especially on 2nd down. It feels like we've brought him in on 1st and 10 and 2nd and long situations waaaaaaay too much.

Personally...I think CSP needs to let Pete Carmichael move on, and he needs to hire an Offensive Coordinator that is young with fresh ideas that will actually challenge him a bit.

They need an update and a fresh set of eyes on Offense. It is very stale these days.

Pete is Drew’s guy, he’ll be here as long as Drew is. And likely longer.

That’s not true. Taysom has a pass option on nearly every handle

If Taysom would've forced that throw into coverage, you'd be calling him an idiot. He tucked it and ran so he's scared and indecisive.

I think you have to let him throw every now and then, or else his schtick doesn't work. My main beef this season is that they are using him on late downs. I think it would be better to get him a snap on first or second down, so theres an opportunity to clean things up if the play doesnt work.

There's no method to the madness... Make it easy and look at Hill like he's a Swiss Army RB, not QB. He's going to run it every time unless somebody is wide a$$ open. He's used to carry the ball just like Murray or Kamara except the defense has to prepare for a potential passing threat, which increases the odds for a positive run.

It’s baffling. Like how is Hill so hellbent on getting a chance to be the starting QB one day when he’s scared to throw the ball?

He has had some open looks this year, I’m not complaining because he usually picks up good yardage on the run anyway but you’d think he’d be itching to throw the ball.

I have said this many times before. More people I think are finally agreeing with me. Hill should never be a QB, never. I love the guy at ANY OTHER position but why take the ball out of the hands of your future hall of famer. And before you say to run the ball think. Is he a better runner than Kamara? That ridiculous. It's a Sean toy gimmick and it is costing us money and plays.

I personally thought he should have let the ball rip for Manny Sanders running the deep post. He also had TreQuan open early on the curl, but hesitated and forced it into TQ Smith when the DB was on his back.

The encouraging part was atleast seeing him attempt a pass, because like others in this thread and on this board have said, he loses some luster when the defense knows it’s a run 95% of the time...
