Just saw this article on SI comparing Marques Colston and Larry Fitzgerald and how the Saints scheme is what makes Colston stand out. Thought I would drop it here.

Colston has averaged 68 receptions, 941 yards and seven touchdowns for New Orleans.

This is including 2013. He's really averaged 1056 a year.

The article is pretty much saying Colston is untalented. Almost every player in the NFL can be described as a "system player".

Who here remembers the 80's and early 90's when SI was relevant?

Amazing how such a talented player like Colston continues to get ignored by talking heads because he wasn't a sexy 1st round pick or some Thug PoS who tweets his thoughts, talks trash, and draws penalty flags from celebrations.

(Not referring to Fitz in that comment, as he has always been a good person on and off the field)

He's a big time receiver who doesn't run his mouth ever. He'll never be considered elite until he's retired and then someone will compare a current player with him and of course, no school like the old school.

I hate journalists sometimes. It seems that anyone can do it.

and I guess having to share catches/targets with a plethora of other receivers makes him "worse" too.

colston's #1 targetted season was 2007 with 143 (catching 98) and racking 1202 yards and 11 TD's

fitz gets targetted on average 149.7 times per season. colston's is 117.3 times per season.

getting targetted so much makes it gaudy too. fricking dumbass

And Fitzgerald had Boldin which took a lot of the attention off of him from the defense. If he's so great he should be breaking records like Megatron not have season on par with the "system player" Colston right?

I don't see anything wrong with the article?

It’s not an apples to apples comparison, as Colston has caught passes from a future Hall of Famer, Drew Brees, while Fitzgerald has spent the past three years chasing down balls from future insurance salesmen.

One of those "future insurance salesmen" was Kurt Warner.

No, it isn't. It is saying that Fitzgerald is more talented...and that much of Colston's success is attributable to the offensive scheme.

The article is 100% correct on both points.

My dad and I were talking about Big Smoove last night...it's hard to notice him except when he makes a play. I know it's cliche to say he doesn't taunt or do a TD dance or run his mouth, but in today's NFL were everybody does a 15 yard dub step you got served dance number after a tackle where the opponent gained 5 yards, it's incredibly refreshing to see Colston just being cool.

That was a good article. If they had more articles like that, they would be more relevant.

The article is correct, but it insinuates that Colston is overrated when we all know that the opposite is true. Colston has never gotten the credit he deserves by media outside of LA. It's a joke he hasn't been to a pro bowl I don't know if there are any hall of famers that haven't been to the pro bowl or all pro but he could be the first.

Before the season started the geniuses at SI did an article about receivers and those drafted late that produced well. They said they didn't include Marques Colston because he was AN UNDRAFTED FREE AGENT!

How the freak did they miss that one!?!
