Sean McVay makes pre snap reads for Goff?

I wasn't aware of this. But I did notice at times when the crowd got really loud in the last game, Goff looked confused and missed badly on some throws. Once we jumped out to a huge lead things got a sort of quiet and that's when the Rams did most of their damage.

The most amazing development in the Rams’ historic offensive turnaround has been the evolution of Jared Goff. The second-year pro, whom many wrote off after a tough rookie season, not only looks like a different guy in the pocket, but he’s also taken command of the offense before the snap after not being very active in the pre-snap phase last season.
Here’s what Tony Romo had to say about Goff during the broadcast of the Rams-Saints game…
“Goff is doing a ton at the line of scrimmage. More than anybody I’ve seen in their second year in a long time — probably since Peyton Manning.”
Did Goff really transform into Peyton Manning over the offseason? Of course not. It’s Sean McVay who’s calling the shots before the snap. Credit goes to the Washington Post’s Mark Bullock for noticing this strategy during a “mic’d up” segment featuring Goff.

McVay gets the Rams lined up quickly, leaving him enough time to assess the defense and call an audible (if necessary) before the play clock hits the 15-second mark. That’s when the headset communication between the coach and quarterback cuts off.

Goff isn’t required to make complex reads from the pocket. More often than not, he’s catching the snap, faking a handoff and throwing to a wide-open receiver in the vacant areas of the field. This is backed up by the numbers: Only four full-time starters have thrown fewer passes into tight windows (a defender within a yard of the intended receiver), per Next Gen Stats.
Making things even easier on Goff, McVay makes a point to get the Rams lined up quickly so he can get a look at the defensive alignment and call an audible based on that look. We wrote about this tactic last season, and McVay is still doing it in Goff’s third year. Here’s a clear example of the Rams head coach calling an audible for Goff from Sunday night…

Good luck calling audibles in with the noise this weekend in the dome

Yup it is very well documented that McVay talks to him the entire time until it cuts off.
One thing that annoys me a little bit about the Superdome crowd (and I suppose this is human nature in general) is that it is quiet between plays and doesn't seem to get really loud until the other team is about to snap the ball, and they aren't particularly loud on 1st and 2nd down.
Need to be loud while they are huddled up.

ughhh, In my experience the dome is very good at being loud during the huddle as well. In big games at at least. Better believe we will be this week.
With the Rams it will be even easier as they don't huddle much.

then just do all your defensive shifts after the 15 second mark on the play clock once the mics are turned off.

I yell every defensive down, starting with 25-30 seconds on the play clock until after the ball is snapped. I need at least a few seconds to catch my breath

Kind of hard to do that when they snap it as soon as they're set.

I've heard this about them as well. And honestly, I've never understood why more don't take advantage of this. But yeah, good luck relying on that this weekend.

I mean, you can't scream the whole game dude

Yeah I’m wondering if they’re thinking they can continue to do that since they already heard the Dome and they think they can communicate over it. That’s what I’m hoping they do cuz they won’t be able to hear shite.
More than likely though McVay is going to call two plays in the huddle and he’s going to have to hand signal to Goff which play to go with. Hell Favre couldn’t even hear his mic and they had to use a wrist band.

Without Mcvay I wonder where Goff would be right now

We can hope. The dome will be next level. They don't understand.

I thought he already said they learned that they CAN'T do that and they are making the adjustments this time around. I really wish we played them in L.A. earlier this year.

You gotta think that coaches like Payton, Reid, Belichick, just rely on their QBs to make those adjustments at the line.
McVay clearly doesn’t trust Goff enough yet.

He knows it's a loud place to play, that's not exactly a hidden secret of the Superdome.

This may be the game to have a headset malfunction. Then neither team can use them.

I wonder what would happen if they were in the AFC and had to go to Pitt or Foxborough and the headsets magically started malfunctioning.
