re: Saints, state of Louisiana closing in on lease extension/major Superdome renovation
they need to work on getting rid of the stupid metal detectors at the entrance of the dome. you used to be able to walk right into the dome. now, you are stuck in a crowd of thousands of people waiting. if someone wanted to cause harm, getting in the line into the dome would be a prime target to blow a bunch of people up. its silly and a waste of time and resources.

All I want is bigger concourses on the plaza level. Sometimes it feels like WWZ in there.

Gotta admit I will be sad to see the internal ramps go. Lots of good memories of playing on them as a kid and celebrating a win with other fans as we walked down them together. Plus adding a few escalators to funnel all those people out the Dome will be a mess.

You do realize this is the standard for almost every sporting event in the country?

The plaza level concourses is probably the worst part of the Dome. Definitely needs to be corrected.

They’ve been widened already. Terrace hasn’t been touched.

The most dramatic feature of the work would be re-imagined entry lobbies at the corners of the stadium along Poydras Street and Champions Square.

Other features include: Removal of the sideline pedestrian ramps leading fans to the loge, club/suite and terrace levels of the building, and replacing them with additional escalators. New east and west sideline club lounges. Expanded 300 level luxury box suites. New end zone field level box suites. Expanded plaza, loge and terrace level concourses. New end-zone corner standing-room-only viewing decks. Expanded team store, retail outlets and Saints Hall of Fame. New visiting team locker room.

None of these really do it for me, I was hoping they were going to try to incorporate some type of view or natural light from inside the stadium. That might not be possible.

Me too!
It’s always fun walking down those ramps after a win with all the drunk happy people lol.
If they can use the space more effectively then I guess I’m all for it, but from a functionality stand point it was always easy entering the game and leaving. Hopefully, the escalators don’t cause too much congestion

Yap but not worse than the terrace. It’s horribky designed esp with where they put concessions in relation to bathrooms & concourse ramps . It’s a logistical nightmare

No, certain areas of the terrace concourse are MUCH worse.

Agreement would run through 2035, include $450 million in upgrades to the dome

Only extending 10 years with that kind of investment?

Its strategic. They will ask for upgrades again, basically every 10 to 15 years.

So much for the new stadium

Why would you want one? To have something shiny and new? The Superdome is in a perfect location and renovations and upgrades make more sense than tearing it down. The building is iconic and it doesn't make much sense to go new.

It sort of needs upgrades every 15 years

I understand it from the Saints' leverage point of view, but I would think the state would push for a little longer.

What? Not only is this the policy of pretty much every group that uses the dome, it's the policy of pretty much every event venue everywhere.

Could they add more lanes, do it faster, have better employees? Sure.
