"Chase Hansen’s time away from the Saints lasted about a week before he came back.
A few days after releasing him, the New Orleans Saints re-signed the former Utah linebacker and undrafted rookie free agent, according to the NFL’s transaction wire report.
Hansen originally signed with the Saints shortly after the end of the NFL Draft last month, but the organization cut him on May 10, the first day of their annual rookie minicamp.
No reason was made known why the Saints released Hansen after making him one of their priority free agent acquisitions, but the team told him he would return after he was cut.
A former three star recruit, according to the industry generated 247Sports Composite, which listed him as the No. 4 overall player in the state of Utah, Hansen committed to the University of Utah initially as a quarterback and then safety, but impressed after a final move to linebacker.
This past season, Hansen had 114 tackles, 22 tackles for loss, five quarterback sacks, two intercepted passes, four pass breakups, and one fumble recovery in 12 appearances for the Utes.
247Sports’ Utah site called Hansen “one of the best defensive players in Utah history,” shortly before he signed with New Orleans, though cited a back problem that kept him from participating in any team workouts prior to the draft, and that likely kept him from being selected by a team in the event.
By signing Hansen, the Saints now have 90 players on their roster.
The Saints announced that they signed several undrafted free agents. Here is a full list of the players that the team has added to the roster so far."
