I question this list when the JETS are ranked #3.

Only fans of the Jets have to be die-hards. Pretty horrible franchise.

right...because NONE of the other cities ranked higher than atlanta fit the same criteria you mentioned...this isn't a contest between new orleans and atlanta, it's ranking of all the fanbases.

I just think it's a dumb format/ranking in general. Take our 2 fanbases out of it.
You're gonna sit here and say the Tenn. Titans are > GB Packers? There's just a lot of flaws in this system, obviously. Rank Atlanta last, I don't care. Hell, I'd even say ATL should be last compared to the Raiders. Their fans are much more loyal/die hard than ours are!

i don't think there's any way to quantify the subject accurately anyway.

eta: that said, i met more saints fans in a week in new orleans than i met falcons fans in 3 1/2 years in atlanta.

I knew all the "News" would be ranked the highest. If only they knew to name Dallas "New Dallas" then the top 5 would be all news.

One could, but one would be wrong.

Per capita income for NO is around 45k LINK

Per capita income for Atl is around 39k LINK

Falcons fans are poor in life and even more poor in their support for their team.

And poor in effort. Or do they just choke on purpose all the time?

Surprised the Packers are so far down.

Correct. Here's where the article lost me:

quote:

Professors Mike Lewis & Manish Tripathi measured team box office revenues relative to team on-field success, market population, stadium capacity, median income and other factors to rank the teams.

I don't know, Uptown New Orleans and metro N.O. (Jefferson, St. Charles, St Tammany, etc.) are pretty damn well-to-do.
Also, the Saints have had an 80k + waiting list for season tickets since 2006.
We are in a smaller 'TV' market than Atlanta, but the Saints have fans spread from East Texas to Florida and from the Gulf to Tennessee; and have season ticket holders who come from all over La, Miss, and even Ala.

Those links aren't very good. When I made my statement it was meant to show the hypocrisy of the inputs they used for the article. That being said, the cities they used for Atlanta don't include extremely rich parts such as Buckhead, Peachtree City, etc. (and quite poverty stricken parts) of greater Atlanta. To the same extent, the NO link doesn't include any towns on the Westbank or NO East or River Ridge, etc.

Blah. The whole point was that the article is dumb and uses silly inputs.

Yea, I said they left out the "poorer" parts of ATL as well. Peachtree City is predominately a "richer" part.

Oh, well it's been a few years so maybe it has changed. Sad, PTC used to be awesome. Drunk golf carting across the whole town is a blast...
