Wouldn't it be great to have great db play no matter what along with a pass rush

yes it would be, but imagine having a revis on the opposite side to a patrick robinson. Prob will still get dominated and we will still get scored on. at least the pass rush gives us a better chance of causing a turnover. i'm just a hater for drafting corners/defensive backs early because the last few we have drafted, minus corey white and tracy porter, have been utter failures

i'm also opening to bringing back tracy porter for cheap. he's a good corner when healthy and if we were to pay him league minimum, I think it would be a great investment. also, weren't greer and porter the best corner duo in the league when both were on the field at the same time a couple of years back?

To get nitpicky we could definitely use an upgrade at Center. DLP gave up a ton of pressure right up the gut this season. Plenty of times Drew couldn't step up into the pocket on his throws. Strief is the more liable, giving up instant pressure to speedy edge rushers, but DLP gives up immediate penetration on run plays, and Drew is better when he steps up into the pocket making the interior of the line more valuable than our Tackles.

we had some hickups in 2011 when the tackle position struggled. I see that as the #1 priority

They were terrible at the beginning of the year, but did better once Cromer went back to coaching the offensive line. The rest of my concern with them is Bushrod being a FA and injury.

That being said, they weren't the biggest problem last year. Our defense and the lack of a playmaker were IMO. That's why I listed DE/OLB first.

1.Pass Rusher - DT or DE.... Sheldon Richardson or Same Montgomery seems to be a good fit

2. OT (RT)- need to protect Drews behind a lot better, his legs arent getting any younger

3. S - we need a ball hawk who makes plays. Harper and Jenkins are like clones. Move Jenkins back to CB or put him at SS and negotiate and cheaper contract/ or trade Harper. If you keep him, move him to OLB.

4. CB or OLB - both can be done with Free Agency... Witherspoon and Chamberlain (healthy) arent bad.

For everyone slamming the offense, this o-line was nominated the best in the entire league last year. The only difference was Carl Nicks who we all agree Grubbs filled in more than adequately for.

So no, I don't think OT is a need. We still don't know what we have in Brown considering he hardly lasted a game when he filled in for Strief. I mean I wouldn't mind taking a late round flyer in a gem we may find, but we need to take a page out if the Packers book and pretty much go all defense.
We have enough WRs and sure as hell enough RBs

have you not seen other thread? we should get ware!
But on a serious note, last year's O-line compared to this year hasn't been the same. They are giving up a lot more pressure and none of our runs or barely any up the gut have been effective since DLP gets pushed so easily. I am opposed to drafting a center/OT early though, we need more help with that dread aweful DL...I wouldn't be able to stand a season of having to bring the house to produce any pressure.

The OP was the only one in that thread that wanted to draft Ware.

I agree with pretty much everything you say. First, we need a good solid safety. We then need help on the DL, mostly a big bodied DT who will stack the middle. Ellis certainly could never do that. Cam Jordan will be great, but we need another pass rusher. We may need OL help, mainly at RT, and maybe LT if we can't sign Bushrod to a deal. After that, maybe another good CB for more depth. Don't need much else after that.

It really depends on what Bushrod does as far as OT is concerned IMO. If we can sign him for the minimum, I'm ok with him Strief and Brown. If he leaves via FA, then we need a replacement. We don't have the cap space to sign a Jake Long though.

I think the OL's problems this year were due to Cromer splitting duties and injury. Next year they will be better.

Yeah, part of the O-Line's problems were that Kromer wasn't able to commit his time to them like a O-Line coach should be able to do.

Not only that, but play calling & play design didn't help the OT at all either. The offense was too pass heavy early in the season & went to entirely too many empty back sets. Payton understands that his tackles aren't elite & gives them help more so then not.

The drafting of a tackle though will largely depend on whether they decide to offer Bushrod a contract or let him hit the market.

1. Defensive Line - Either RDE or DT, but we need guys who push the pocket. You could have the best secondary in the world, but it won't mean a thing if you can't pressure the QB.

2. Offensive Line - Bushrod is serviceable, but De La Puente and Strief really bombed. I'd love to add Alabama's Barrett Jones right here.
