I think it will be very tough to keep him off the roster.

Dural isn’t an NFL talent. He wasn’t overly special at LSU either.

Dural was absolutely special at LSU before he got hurt. He was never the same after that injury. He stopped behaving like a physical wide receiver and played below his size. He also lost a little burst off the line. He just has never been the same player since. I was rooting for him, but it’s clear he just doesn’t have that “it” factor.

Idk if he was ever “absolutely special” at LSU like OBJ, Juice, Reed. He was a decent/good player. But definitely tier 2 receiver.

from ESPN's veterans that could be cut from all 32 teams article

quote:

New Orleans Saints

WR Cameron Meredith

Meredith agreed to a pay cut to stay with the team in March. But that won't be enough unless he finally gets healthy and starts producing on the practice field. Meredith missed all of OTAs and minicamp to keep recuperating from the knee injury that wiped out his entire 2017 season with the Bears and limited him to just six games in New Orleans last year. The plan is to be smart and cautious so he can be healthy in training camp and last the full season. But he'll have to make up ground quickly this summer to solidify a role. -- Mike Triplett

I was pretty sure it would be Meredith before I even clicked

Yeah, I’m thinking this signing spells the end for Meredith in New Orleans.

Yea I wouldn't say he was special, but he was a legit deep threat. He consistently got behind SEC db's for huge gains. Some of those SEC db's are playing in the NFL. His yards per catch was absurd.

Then he got hurt & everything changed. He was never the same after that 1st injury in college & the 2nd injury in the NFL basically sealed his fate. He could've been a deep threat in the NFL if he had stayed healthy imo. Like a less talented Devery Henderson with better hands.

Devery was never a tier 1 WR at LSU either. Michael Clayton was that guy when Devery was there. I still can't believe that Devery had a better NFL career than Clayton.

If Meredith can't get on the field for training camp...he's done imo. So that means he needs to get healthy enough to play in about 4-5 weeks or he's gone.

Here's his contract LINK

2019 cap # - 4.15 mil...not exactly chump change.
2019 dead cap # - 2.75 mil.

We would save 1.4 mil against the cap if we cut him. That's not very much, but it's easily worth it if he can't even get on the field.

I still don't mind the fact that we took a chance on him. He was a risk & we made a calculated guess. Sometimes it just doesn't work out for you.

Hopefully Meredith can get healthy soon, b/c the writing is on the wall if he can't. I'm sure he knows that, b/c his agent should have told him something by now if the Saints FO hasn't.

I've seen at least 3 or 4 different sites that have predicted him getting cut in the last couple of weeks.

You're right. OTC says we just save 900 k by cutting him. I'm assuming that OTC is correct.

That's peanuts, so if he ends up getting cut...it's b/c he had almost no chance of ever getting healthy for this season.

and really we only save the difference of 300k or so of the 51st player on roster or whatever it is. MIght as well IR him and see if we need him during course of later year.

Yea he would be worth keeping if we could get some good snaps out of him for the 2nd half of the season.

What a shitty position to be in for both Meredith & the Saints.
