PPG all that matters.

Last 5 games...we're basically top 5 in everything.
Even counting the 1st 2 games...I think we're still doing better than everyone expected. Huge turnaround from last year.

They've been downright elite since week 2

He means as whole. Everyone knows the last 5 weeks have been elite.
Those 1st 2 games were beyond pathetic.

so they are giving up
+7 more total yards per game
-12 less pass yards per game
+6 more rushing yards per game
and -2 PPG
If that is average, they were average before. And ill take it

For the most part. And as I said in the game thread: we give up a few huge run plays today, but hold them to ~2ypc on the rest of their runs. So the YPG looks bad, but it forces them into a bunch of 3rd and longs. That's reflected in the PPG.

Yup. You want them to eliminate the long runs altogether, but as long as they don't end up as TDs (which against the Packers they did) then it doesn't hurt as much as giving up 5 yards a pop on the shorter runs.

Yeah this game reminded me a lot of the Packers game.
We gave up 70+ yards to Jones on the first drive with a 46 yard TD but he had only 61 yards the rest of the game, and two broken containments for 14 (the TD) and 22 yards by Hundley.
Outside of that we held them in check. This game was a lot like that. One long pass, one long run, and broken containment for a long QB scramble.

None of them resulted in a TD either. I'll take that all day.

We said average, we got slightly above average! And continuing to improve!

Let that settle in. We got gashed on a few plays where the defense was confused pre snap, or someone missed a gap assignment. Also, we were in scoring position the 2 times Mark uncharacteristically fumbled. This game should not have ever been in question. Credit the Bears defense. They made plays and their offense took advantage of some of our defensive miscues. In the end, we found a way to win which is encouraging. We keep making sure of that at the end of the day. That shouldn't be overlooked.

Yeah that's another way this one reminded me of the Packers game. Instead of two picks by Brees in FG range, it was two fumbles by Mark.
The game also ended on a pick by us.
It was eerily similar.

All the long runs by the QB have been on busted containment by the line. That's actually been an issue with us for a few years, but it us happening less often this year.

It'd be nice if we could limit the QB runs. For a second I legit thought Trubisky was gonna take it to the house on that long run he had
Coverage was fricking superb on that run (why he scrambled and ran). Unfortunately, the middle of the field was left open due to added line pressure and he somehow escaped through it. That's what happens. Sucks, but you leave the middle void and the play breaks down from good coverages, the receivers usually have the DBs too deep to recover and stop a large gain like that.
