Something I noticed yesterday that no matter what players were in the game from the starters to the back end training camp guys, we had very consistent technique of filling gaps and taking good angles at the running back.

Tells me that our coaching is doing a good job with scheme and technique, and that’s a major reason our defense improved a lot last year.

I think the defense will be fine again this year. Looking forward to what Gardner-Johnson and Hampton can do once the game slows down a bit for them. Kaden Ellis might be a late round steal.

Yep. Our late round picks are looking very good so far. CGJ, Hampton, & Elliss looking like they'll make them team. Alize Mack probably won't, but he can't get on the field. Thankfully, we can stash him on the PS. I doubt teams would poach an injured 7th round pick.

Concerning the OP...yea, our run defense looked like a complete turn around from the Vikings game. We'll probably have a top 5 run defense again this year. I think we were #2 last year behind Chicago.

Dennis Allen doesn't seem to have a very good plan to begin with, but he ALWAYS makes great adjustments. Half-time adjustments & fixing problems seem to be Dennis Allen's biggest strengths. Our defense is legit once he's figured out the problem. He also has 3 damn good position coaches helping him out...Nielsen, Nolan, & Glenn.

I was super impressed with that Ellis dude. I remember we drafted him near the end of the draft, but I’ve been super busy during training camp, so I haven’t heard his name much till I watched yesterday’s game. He should definitely make the team if that’s the norm from him.

All comes down to how they come out Week one... that's been this defense's kryptonite for a long time.

The good news is that he's getting faster at his adjustments.

In 2017, the defense looked like shite until week 4 (Dolphins in London).

In 2018, the defense looked like shite until week 2 (Browns).

In 2019, he made a great adjustment from the 1st preseason game to the 2nd.

That doesn't mean we will be ready for week 1 this year, but at least it means we should have faith in Allen...as far as the big picture is concerned.

Elliss is making the team. In the 1st preseason game...he had 20 ST snaps, & looked good on defense. In the 2nd preseason game...he had 15 ST snaps, led the team in defensive snaps played, & led the team in tackles.

If he's not a lock right now...it will probably just take 1 more game like the last 2. Pretty good for a 7th round pick, & someone that played college football at freaking Idaho.

Yea, Allen isn't a top 5 DC. He's the best we've had in a very long time though.

A CSP offense to go along with a Dennis Allen defense is a pretty good combination...at least it has been for the last 2 years.

It's a lot better than a CSP offense to go along with the #32 ranked defense. We've all seen enough of that shite.
