Just saw a clip from NFL Network yesterday where Michael Irvin stated that the toughest defender he ever faced in his career was Robert Massey, a defensive back for the Saints. I started watching the Saints in 1999, so it appears he was on the team before then. Who here remembers him?

He was a pretty good FS. I believe he took over for Gene Atkins or maybe Brett Maxie in the late years of the Dome Patrol era. Not a pro bowler but solid.

He went to the pro bowl after he left the Saints. I think the Cardinals.

I remember the name and remember he was a db but don't remember his play on the field or what happened to him.

I remember him. Was good, but not a shut down CB or anything. Was helped out a lot by that Done Patrol defense.

While the LBs were all world on that defense I remember thinking the late-80s Saints finally had a solid secondary. They probably would have been more highly regarded if they hadn't had to play Montana and Rice twice a year.

He turned out ok but I think that's who Flipper Anderson got most of his yards on that horrible night when he burned us for 336? yds or whatever.
