That was fast: Former #Patriots RB Mike Gillislee is heading to New Orleans for a visit this morning, source said. Could get something done if it’s the right fit.

we need a seconds stamp so I know who posted first.
Good person to look at though. I like Gillislee.

I figured the HB numbers looked too low. You had two legit and Edmunds (if you can count him as anything but a special teamer).
Gray HAS to be the cut of this happens, right?

This makes the Jonathan Williams cut even stranger. I thought this was just a temporary paperwork cut with the intent to be re-signed for cheap.
Gillislee is only a short yardage bruiser and pounder with little or no wiggle or acceleration.
And since he offers nothing in the passing game, it telegraphs what the play will be and they stack the box. That's exactly why the AD experiment failed.
JW seemed to have some power, vision, change-of-direction but was, most importantly, the best pass-blocker on the team, according to Brees.
Strange.

Boston Scott has been productive inside. Doesn't look the same, but he's making yds on off-tackle plays... and he seems able to catch some out of the backfield.
Maybe he's the short term 2nd back, and we're just going to look around at whoever's out there. Williams will be back IMO, unless we find a better version of what he brings.

Man, these youtube highlights of his time in Buffalo don't show that at all. He looks very good and close to Mark Ingram in his running style. This would be a good pickup. He got hurt midway through the season in New England last year and didn't play anymore after that. He was having a great season up to the injury.

He must have copped a feel on Meagan Payton would be the only explanation

Williams didn’t look great in short yardage situations and that probably didn’t sit well with Payton. Gillislee is damn good at short yardage.

He was already cheap, making the minimum as a second year player.
Williams would be the guy you keep over a vet to save some money, and then you cut him amd bring the vet back.

I think the lack of effort on that pylon TD run sealed Jonathan Will’s fate. He didn’t run all out, didn’t reach the ball over, didn’t dive or try to fight his way in. He literally lazily toe tapped the pylon with the football actually 2 feet outside of the end zone and put the onus on the referees to make the call. Then the next play, he bobbled what should have been a routine catch about 25 times and again put the onus on the referees and it backfired. Shame bc he played great outside of those 2 plays, but that lack of drive and determination shown on those 2 plays by a player on the bubble probably sealed his fate.

Yeah gillislee is def a good back.
Wouldnt be suprised if payton called bill and asked if he was really getting cut.
New england just used him as short yardage back cause they have so many running backs.

That’s actually a really good observation.

It really must be something with effort or attitude. He consistently shows flashes of talent but still ends up getting cut from multiple teams.

Ha - ball was in his right hand - simple reach & it is a TD

Williams ran tentative between the tackles to me, and that one TD run where tried to outrace the defender to the corner barely hitting the pylon to score. He should have just ran straight at him lowering the shoulder to easily bowl him over into the endzone.
