Imagine being a casual NFL fan and thinking you have more knowledge and insight than the professionals who have dedicated their adult lives to studying and perfecting the game

The only thing you left out are the bust threads after his first game, and after his first full season. God forbid he miss a game.

NUCLEAR

This is actually what I'm starting to expect to happen. Just makes sense on too many levels and the melt would be epic. There would be idiotic threads on here for the next 5 years endlessly comparing their careers.

I will personally melt if Jefferson falls to us and we pass.

The draft (and its reaction) almost always goes like this:

Pick is made

IMMEDIATE melting commences

Some guys are freaking the frick out, while some guys repeat the old saying, ‘just trust ______’

A few days pass, we get 25 threads a day that are all the same: ‘I can’t believe we reached for ____, he would have been available in the ___ round’. - while others are preaching about ‘just trusting the staff’

Someone comes along and posts some article or link highlighting the strengths/weaknesses of the player, providing a little bit of insight on the pick, which results in a few people pumping the breaks and deciding they should wait it out before evaluating the selection

Camp starts, and every little piece of info gets ripped to shreds and scrutinized in hopes that we can get a glimpse of the future for the pick. Some nonamed guy from saratoga state community college starts turning heads in camp, the board falls in love with him but he ultimately gets cut or sent to the PS and never heard from again til next offseason (unrelated to the draft and this post, but you know it’s coming)

Preseason starts, and then the regular season. People will still be entrenched in the ‘this was the wrong pick’ battle, but everyone knows it takes more than one season to successfully evaluate a pick

That’s my prediction for the melt of today’s pick

literally all this has happened to date with Davenport.

thankfully we hit on both our 2017 picks so not as bad

LOL..For the last couple of years I am worried that the Saints will trade the entire draft...That leaves no picks for the rest of the draft and screws my Saturday grilling...

if we move up to take jordan love the melt will be 10 (and rightfully so)

if at 24 murray queen and jordyn brooks are on the board and we take brooks the melt will be a 10

if we take one of murray/queen/jefferson/aiyuk at 24 the melts will be very limited

people will always melt if we select an o lineman. happens every year.

This board partially melted over Lattimore. A top 5 pick falling to us

Wasn't a lot of that because the board really wanted White, SP hates LSU...

There is virtually no pick in this board's history where the melt level was below 5.

If memory serves me correctly, this board was around an 8 over the Ram pick, and was closer to a 4-5 over Anthony. There were quite a few melts were the poster liked the Anthony pick, just thought we should have traded back into the 2nd.

Hopefully people see that we've drafted better than almost every other organization in the NFL and give things time to bear out...bare out? I dunno.

From what I recall a large amount of it was from people that wanted Jonathan Allen.

Which is utterly ridiculous. By your logic we wouldn’t have taken Von Miller.

We won’t be picking until 9 o’clock so everyone is going to be super wasted

So very melty unless it’s Queen or Jefferson

People absolutely lost their shite about Lattimore’s hamstring issues at Ohio State even though the guy was consistently mocked in the top 5-7 of every mock draft, people still lost it because it wasn’t Derek Barnett or Allen and because of Lattimore’s hamstrings

People also melted pretty hard after it came out we missed on Reuben Foster and took Ram.

that is what it was and marshon has been demonstrably better than jonathan allen thus far in their respective careers.

The Saints almost never draft who we expect them to, and our fan base gets super attached to certain players and then melts when we don’t take them

Realistically it’s extremely unlikely we take Queen, Murray, Jefferson, etc. we will probably take someone less expected.

Perfect post. It happens every year. Would not surprise me if the pick is Ruiz, Brooks or Gladney.

You're thinking of the wrong White.

Tre'Davious "White" went to Buf at the 27th pick, Lattimore was the 11th pick. Both in 2017

Devin White was 2 year later.

Sheldon Rankins was the lowest Ive ever seen it. Literally 80% percent of all mock drafts had us taking him and nearly everyone on the board liked him before the draft. The only ones melting were the ones who were attached to another player.

that was as close to a one as Ive seen it
